What did you pay for Clear Bra coating?

I just got a price on X-pel coating:

$452.00 Hood, Fender, Mirror
$569.00 Front Bumper
$52.95 Headlamp

This seems high to me and not worth it so I'm going to pass on it.

$500 for hood, front bumper, mirrors, headlamps and installation from RockBlocker.com. $320 if you just order the product.

$728 included front hood, front bumper, side view mirror, and top of rear bumper under the trunk opening. Also all front lights.

12mil thick with a 6 year warranty. No need for UV protectant.

SSH,

Did you install it yourself and how difficult was it? I'd imagine you just wet the surface with soapy water, apply the film and then sqweege out all the air bubbles??. I can order the film for about 1/2 of what these guys want to install it. I'd definately like the protection but it's hard to justify $1000 to stop a few stone chips.

In Nov. 03 I sold my 1995 Acura Legend with 140,000 miles, and the whole front end looked really bad because of all the paint chips. I decided that I was going to get a clear bra for my new TL when it arrived.

I shopped around the South SF bay and found prices ranging from $700 to $1,200 at locations listed in the phonebook and on the internet. When I found the Invisiguard representative who would come to my house and install it for $595 (plus $75 for the headlights), I decided that it was the best price I could get for the quality of product I was looking for.

I watched him spend over 4 hours applying the different pieces and it was very obvious that he was very experienced in what he was doing. I would not even consider installing it myself.

The clear bra is probably more expensive than it should be, but I think it is worth the investment.

Chad from RockBlocker.com installed mine. You can buy the product from Chad and he'll give you pointers or recommend a local installer.

In the Dallas area, most places wanted about $800-$900 for the XPel extended coverage. I found a place that said they'd do it for around $500. I want to see what it looks like on an NBP car first, though. Hopefully the distortion isn't too much.

SSH,

That looks awesome! I can only see the faint line from the side. One top or the other view, I can't see it at all.

Have you Zaino'd over the clear bra?

I've been looking at clear bra for a while. Its worth the investment.

Its really is amazing. You can't see the product at all unless you are standing 2 feet away at the right angle.

I'm doing a full Zaino this weekend. I'll report back on how it looks. Chad's advice was to treat the film like the rest of your car. Wash and wax the same way.

Got the extended version (stretches to the wheel wells)... Hood, bumper, mirrors and headlights $970 w/ 6yr warranty (3M film).

Rocketsfan: Spoke to Goodson and they said they use someone who can do it for about $500.....

What film is everyone having installed (3M or Llumnar)?

MARK1,

Does it come with the necessary tools and easy to understand instructions? How would you rate the ease of installation on 1 to 5 scale, 5 being difficult?

I read Roadblocker's directions and it looks pretty complicated to do a good job. The closest installer is in NJ so that doesn't look like an option. I know one of the other film companies rates it as either a 4 or a 5 on difficulty scale.

Really? Sweet. I wonder who that is. I talked to Sunmasters over on Midway and they said they could do it for $500, but I'd rather just take it to Goodson since they're right around the corner. Sunmasters has apparently done a lot of the Dallas Mavericks' cars. Do you know if what they use at Goodson is the Xpel kit?

Thanks.

Eastern MA ClearBra installer

A buddy of mine owns a window tinting company in Bolton and uses LLumar. I'm going to ask him about the Clear Bra stuff and whether or not he does it and how much.

If there are enough people here interested, I could see about getting some sort of group discount if we can get enough people to commit.

Barring that, there was a guy on here recently from CT that was offering to do it for $500. Sounded like it was in western CT though.

SSH,

Thanks again for the kinds words towards us. Several local peopl have followed your lead and are getting their cars covered since the dealers around want $900-1500 for the install. OUCH!!

I heard that the pics were lost so I will post the ones I took of your car.

For the guys in New England area you can go see Tony DeFranco at Tintco in New Britain, CT. 860.829.1400 or Tint-it in Boston area. 617.912.1040

For group buys on the product let me know. We encourage those greatly

Not sure....My sales person was the one who told me about them installing Clear Bra (Steve Levi). Sad thing, he told me this AFTER I had the Clear Bra already installed. Oh well.... The bra is well worth it! I have had several hits on the way into the office along John Carpenter Freeway. It save my butt every time....

Just wish it could XPel SUV doors that swing wide! Anyone know how much PDR will cost to remove a dent?

I had RockBlocker (Chad) install mine yesterday. I stood around and watched the process... For me, the $150 installation cost was well worth it. Although Chad makes it look easy while he's working, I'd say it's a fairly complex process - one where a novice could make many mistakes.

If you want to do it yourself, try to gain some experience on your buddy's car first!

rockblocker -

What do you need for group buys? Is there a tier discount based on the number of owners? Who does the install?

Sides? You did the doors?! Or did you mean the side of the bumper up to the wheel well?

I finally got a dealer in the Dallas area that said he'd do it for $500. Pretty reputable place and they apparently do some of the Dallas Mavericks' vehicles.
