You know how many thing we would beg you to check for us on your brand new car... haha
  1. Could you feel if there is felt inside the inner wiper of the windows? (lower down your 4 windows and touch the inner wipers by your fingers)

  2. Feel any driveline vibration? (5th gear at 1500 RPM if you're 5AT)

  3. What tire do you have?

After a year long wait, I finally picked up my '05 today (#397). She's beautiful! Antracite/Ebony, 6MT, Navi, HPT. Got it for $34,270 + $249.50 Doc Fee (plus TTL of course).

What an amazing car! My only concern after 100 miles is that it sometimes doesn't get into gear when shifting into 2nd. Could there still be a tranny problem on the '05s? It also seems to be a little difficult to shift into 1st. Any thoughts? I've had an Integra GSR for 10 years and the stick was a joy to drive.

Rets - It feels like there is felt inside the window, but I'd have to feel an '04 to compare. Also, my navi is DB version 20040714 and software version 1.0010.

Congratulations

Thanks for your check-up.

04TL used to have 3.30F, 3.30G, & 3.30H, what's the new version # on the disc? 3.30I or 3.40. Thanks. Mine is something 200307... don't remember now...

Also, if we lower down our windows of 04 (at least my early build is) and put your finger there, the inner wiper/rubber blade (not the outer one) is smooth and plain. Do you feel "felt" touch instead of "smooth" one?

Enjoy.

05TL lot of people have mentioned that shifting in 2nd is crunchy. It happen to me too and I', sure there was a convinving answer in one of the threads here. I'll try to find it. But yes upshifting to 2nd and downshifting from 2 - 1 are crunchy. This is not a tranny problem though. If you cannot get into 2nd bring it to dealer I'd say. Also the clutch gets engaged and disengaged at about half way down. Not like all other manual trannies I've driven, that is, all the way down. See if you can open the gate properly by pressing clutch all the way down. It might need some adjustment.

when you say hard to engage 2nd do you mean its notchy? cause when i first got mine 04 it felt a little different than all the other gears. a couple thousand miles in and all is smooth.

The new disc version is 3.40A.

Regarding the windows, it definitely feels like the inner piece is felt. Does this mean the issue people were having with scratched windows should be resolved? I'm looking to get them tinted and figured I'd need to use the moleskin. If it's felt, the moleskin shouldn't be necessary, right?

As far as my concerns with 2nd gear, it's not crunchy or notchy. I've just had a handful of occasions where it didn't seem to catch. That is, I shifted into 2nd and it didn't get in gear; it slipped out. Any thoughts?

Last thing I'll say is the navigation is great! It's really like having a phone book built into the car. I wasn't going to get it initially, but I'm glad I did! I'd recommend it to anyone who's on the fence, if you can afford it.

Time to go

05TL.....I had the same problem when I first picked up my 04TL....I would shift into 2nd and it would pop/slip out....this was around 50-100 miles on the odo. 1700 miles later and it has not popped out once. Might have something to do with my making sure that the shifter is completely in the slot before letting up the clutch pedal.

Thanks Willz. It didn't slip out today. Maybe it is only in the first 100 miles. I think I'm already starting to make sure it's in the slot too. But I wonder why 2nd is the only gear where this happens.

It's amazing how much this car makes you want to get behind the wheel. And I haven't even come close to opening it up yet!

When shifting into 2nd, make sure you have the lever biased hard enough to the left. The TL tranny has a strong centering spring compared to 4 cylinder Hondas and 2nd will sound crunchy if you hit the 2-4 fence before slotting into 2nd. I noticed the same thing on the Maximas. I had a very light shift action Civic before the TL.

Also, trannys need break-in, just like the engine. Give the syncros a split second to spool-up in normal driving and the tranny will never give you problems.
