What is the 04 TL's dash made of?

What are the 04 TL's dash and interior materials made from. Is it plastic, vinyl or rubber or a combination? It feels a littly spongy to the touch so I'm wondering if it is made of rubber? Zaino's plastic polish doesn't work too well on it. Amour All Wipes seem to work well but leave it a bit shiny. Anybody know? What do you all use to clean and restore it? Thanks.

Same thing that all car dashes are made of. Same thing the bumpers are made of, the seat foam, the steering wheel, etc.

All polymer based, just injected to different pressures.

I use Armorall on a towel. Protects it, gives it a little bit of gloss but not too much.

Don't use Armorall, it actually breaks down vinyl & rubber. (Ever notice that film on the inside of your windshield...it is coming from the dashboard being disolved. Use Lexol Vinylex. I buy it from www.carcareonline.com

I find it difficult to believe that a product that is indicated on the directions to be used on plastic and vinyl and has no warnings regarding rubber acts to "breakdown" both vinyl and rubber. On what do you base that statement? Sounds like an "urban legend" to me.

Film

That film would be on the windows regardless. All plastics deteriorate over time and the film deposited on windows is the residue from that breakdown.

That's why you see cracked vinyl seats and trim in older cars. Armor All and products like it retard the deterioration but nothing can stop it short of putting a vehicle in environmentally controlled storage out of the sun.

There is a version of Armor All, and a couple others, that is non-glossy.

I used ArmorAll wipes over the weekend. They're alright. IMO, makes things too oily. And if you miss a spot or get a little on something it shouldn't be on like leather or aluminum it looks horrible.

I know I'm really anal, but I use Endust on the aluminum and fake carbon fiber. It gets the dust off and really shines it up!

ArmorAll sucks...it's water based and will ruin anything you use it on over a period of time. Also, since it's water based, it dries up, making you want to use more and more of it. This stuff is marketing hype period. Use 3M aerospace protectant, it was designed by aerospace engineers for use in aircraft to prevent UV damage. It's much better than armorall...and won't ruin it protects what you use it on. Can't say that for armorall.

I remember somewhere reading that Armorall was oil based not water based. The water based ones are safer.

I couldn't agree with you more. I just dusted the dash on my 97 Camry once every 2 weeks with a damp towel and it's never cracked. The oily, shiny look is awful and causes glare on the windshield which is really distracting. There is good reason why every dash is black and matte.

This is true when mixing lubricants and condoms. Not sure why water-based products would be "safer" in a car, though. You're not getting into any beastiality I hope.
