wax on....wax off

Up to now I have been using S100, a pure carnuba wax you can buy at your local Harley dealer. Easy to apply and remove and leaves behind a great shine.
My dealer was pitching a Teflon polish that is supposed to last 5 years. Anybody try this stuff? Thoughts?

Haven't used it lately. I just obtained the Wax Test from Guru Reports (46 waxes tested). I don't know what specific type of Turtle Wax you're talking about, but it says that Turtle Wax is about the middle of the pack overall. "Finish 2001" is their highest rated wax. Says it's easy to use but not particularily glossy or durable.

Well, I do'nt know if things have changed.. but you had to send in your check via regular mail. I don't think he took Credit Cards even.

I bought mine from a guy in the Dallas area so I didn't have to wait for the stuff to come in the mail.

But I think the stuff is worth it. I don't think it shines any better than the 3M for example, but it lasts atleast twice as long. That in it of itself is probably worth the wait to me. Plus it's easier to take off then most paint protection products I've used.

Carnauba has to be done at least every 90 days and starts deteriorating quickly. The synthetics hold up much longer but their finish isn't as deep and clear as the naturals. I've started using Blackfire (a synthetic) and it's held up really well during the bad winter we've had so far. For those in bad climates, wax is more about protection than depth and luster. I'd probably use a carnauba if I lived in Florida.

It used to be important to wait before waxing when the lacquers, acrylics, and enamels of the time took a lot longer to cure - months instead of the hours needed for the current paints.

So, no need to wait. Wax right away.

You guys may also want to do a search for "wax" or "zaino" ... there seems to be a thread about this every week... all with the same info.

I'm a recent convert to Zaino. It does work well and the car seems to get less dirty between car washes. It must be the magical qualities that Zaino has.

Sorry, but Zaino came in first place in the Guru Reports.

It's snake oil. In order for "teflon" to be applied to your car, it has to be heated to some ridiculous temperature before it turns to a liquid.

Bottom line: it's a total waste of money. Spend it on a high quality polymer or carnauba and you'll be happy.

The day you get the car (or the next if you spend delivery day driving around with a smile on your face), Wash with Dawn, Claybar the entire car (you will be amazed at all the stuff you pull out of the clear coat on a new car!), put 3 coats of Zaino Z-2 or Z-5 (with ZFX) on it, from that day forward wash with Zaino car wash, and put another coat or two or three of Z-2 on it every 3 months.

If you do this - your car will wash so easily you will not believe it, it will always look "hurt your eyes" shiny, your clear coat will last forever, and it will be Waaaaaaay easier to maintain than using any other products.

I have this stuff on everything from my Audi, to my Camaro SS, to my wife's Honda Pilot - and it will go on my TL the day after it arrives.

Get it online and go for it. (I left out some of the details on Zaino and the other products you will want/need but it is all on the web site.)

I use Meguiar's on my Mustang. It works well. What I like about it is that it isn't too difficult to buff off. I used Turtle wax a few years ago and even with the orbital buffer it took way too much time and effort for me to ever use it again.

I'll try the Zaino when I get the new car.

I knew that (I have the Guru report too). I was only discussing the poster's original request for info about Turtle Wax.
