To VSA or No VSA (in the rain)

Okay, I was driving today in heavy rain..where there's big ass puddles on the freeway with my VSA on..and so i started driving and realized that when I would over big puddles or when people in front of my splashed large amount of water in front of me...I would lose control..even with my VSA and thought if it was better to have VSA cause ...it seems like..right after I would lose control...the VSA would kick in and lose control some more due to VSA kicking in and then finally regain control...so then I decided to do some driving with it off and it felt like...with VSA....the ride felt more...stable in a sense...like..i felt the road more (which isn't a good thing), but it felt as if the tires were rotating and gripping the road better with the VSA off and my question to people is...has anyone else felt that turning off VSA in heavy rain is better than with it on? It just seems as though VSA should be if I want to go around 25 mph turns at 55-60 mph...

I don't know...

what your feeling over those big puddles is hydroplaning, if your cruising at 50 n hit a puddle theres no way ur tire will over spin causing VSA to kick in unless you are at WOT, especially if you have the EL42's which are horrible n all they do in the rain is hydroplane

Did the VSA light come on while you were driving? (the orange triangle).

If the light flickers, it means VSA is doing stuff and the car may feel odd as it tries to stay in control.

Slayer just summed up the difference .. with VSA on the car does the controlling, including controlling when you haven't yet realized you're NOT in control ... VSA off feels more like what a driver is used to.

I'm not advocating one over the other .. my pref is to keep VSA on. It takes some getting used to, but after watching a couple yahoos lose it (Can you say 720 on a rain soaked highway) as I cruise on by (with the VSA on) I figure the Honda engineers gave me VSA .. it would be rude not to take advantage of it ... right?!?

This kind of a dumb discussion, what you saw was the VSA saving your butt. In the rain always keep VSA ON. Unlike traction control VSA will reduce wheel spin at any speed. The only time you should turn off you VSA is on loose and slippery conditions going uphill(snow or dirt). Furthermore the TL's VSA has a high threshhold thus it only interfers with the joy rides when serious trouble might occur, ergo, unless you're racing your puppy on a track leave it on , the only thing you'll miss is wrapping your new wheels around a tree.

not only vsa engaged often... but the ABS somehow kicks in more often for me (when braking over the railroad on a slippery day).... Also after the rain I somehow find more and more potholes which drives me nuts... Either I didn't notice it before or what...

I cannot believe people do not know how to drive. VSA... leave it on... antilock brakes just hold them down... OK.. you get the picture....

And as tires wear they will lose traction more frequently which can account for VSA kicking in more often. And if you drive with a lead foot you will see VSA more often.

I would add....

If the VSA light comes on, you are driving too fast for the current conditions.

My VSA came on when I floored it on the freeway around 40mph.. when it was sunny and dry..
Only for a moment, but the VSA light doesn't necessarily mean you're going too fast.

ok well it means that for the condition that you are currently in, the computer has perform some kind of corrective action. Whether the operator wants it or not...

Ever go through a deep puddle with cruise control on and have the car hydroplane and see what happend with the cruise control.. etc etc...

The car reacts so the driver and sit and and say what was that...

Too bad some of you guys did not grow up in the 70s and actually have to drive the car.. No antilocks, VSA, etc with 2 speed automatics... L and D.. You were lucky if you got LSD (that's a 3 speed for those of you who do not know) ..lol

Wide tires were 70 series tires on 14 inch rims with raised white letters on cragars..

If you were really a bad boy you had 60 series...

no torque steer no FWD.

Everyone had a V8.

You had a borg warner tranny etc.. maybe a B & M 4 speed stick was it...

Of course back then the AMC gremlin 6 cyc had more torgue than the TL lol...
