Question voice interface question

sorry if this has already appeared on the groups before...

It is safe to assume that the TL owners come from a wide demographic. So the question is how well does the voice recogniton do ?

Do you use the voice recognition interface often ?

Is it tuned for the American accent.....or do the British, Canadian, Southern, Chinese, Indian, european, russian etc accents do just as well.

(male/female voice i would think would not make a difference)

In my experience it works well. Everyone who has been in my car has tried it, and as long as the command is correct it works flawlessly no matter who says it. As fo how often, all the time. I don't touch the controls anymore.

I don't use it as often as I though I would. There are several commands that are a lot easier than using fingers, for example,
"CD Play Disk 5" or "Temperatur Max Hot", etc.

I have an accent and have no recognition problems. Since the system is programed to recognize only a handful of commands, the accent doesn't matter that much.

I use the voice recognition at times. I'm still amazed at this car's technology. When I say "find nearest Chinesse Restuarant," and it does its so amazing. I play with it even though I don't need to. If you talk softly but clearly it still understands your commands. I dont have to scream out a command thats a plus

Thats good to hear.

Recently i was playing around with Dragon Naturally speaking voice recognition software and even after going thru the "training" (where i had to read passages to the software), it seemed to do only a so-so job.

In the TL the problem is slightly simpler (finite set of commands), even so it is admirable if they are able to quickly compensate for different dialects.

Question Voice interface non-navi model

While we're on the subject......on the non-navi TL, should I be able to use voice commands for the climate and audio systems? The system set up and phone book storage commands all work just fine.....but all I get back using audio/climate commands is "pardon?" and "please repeat". Help?

I don't think so. How many sets of voice buttons do you have? The radio/climate control/navi buttons are below the HFL buttons and act separately. There are 4 voice buttons in total.

I'm from east Indian origin and have hard accent. Nav, climate, radio/audio commands works correct for me 99.99%. HFL commands put a lot of 8s in between. However once hte phobook is entered all works well.
