it's me, Alan Rickman.
LED = Light Emitting Diode (a light source)
DRL = Daytime Running Lights (a safety feature)
Most people dislike the dimmed dirty colored light look of halogens running in low power; so they opt for a bright white LED replacement 'bulb'.
I changed my interior lights to LEDs (they look schweeeet), you can use them for signals as well but may run into the fast blink problem because they do not draw enough voltage - so they blink fast. The solution [last I read] was to install load balancers or something on each side to draw 12v and trick the system into thinking you have 12v bulbs all the way around - the downside is you have to attach these to the body of the car in a spot where it's all metal because they produce a ton of heat from what I've read.
RE: Original post.. are these the switchbacks that do NOT require headlight housing modification? Will they cause the fast blink? Please reply if you know
