Why is there a lot of discussion on the VIN numbers? I ordered mine the 1st week of May from Tunersville, NJ and the salesrep called last week and gave me a VIN that begins with 19. It should be delivered in a few days. What is the significance of the first two digits?

If the vin is actually 019XXX, that means it was made somewhere around December of 2003, which means he isn't getting it from the factory but from another dealer, where it has been sitting for over 5 months.

At this point in time, I would insist on getting a newer model, unless you just have to have it now. Later vin's usually have less problems. The vin's being sold now are well over 040XXX.

He actually told me 19UUA########## it was not prceeded by a zero. He aclled me and told me it was assigned a VIN last week so I assumed it was from the plant. He said build date May 9th and delivery approx 12 days after.

Thanks Ron- That helps me. It looks like I'm ok then last 5 digits are 48143

48xxx/49xxx, for sure, are newest VINs at this moment.
