VIN etching

Has anyone used one of the VIN etching kits sold online? Do they work? I was thinking of etching the HID lights just as a (mild) deterrent. Has anyone done this?

The HID on 04TL is very hard to remove or steal, withou removing the whole front bumper, you cannot take it out. But it's your car and your call.

Not sure how easy to use those etching kits got online...

Just to add to it. Wouldn't the solution for etching be too strong for plastic if you were etching the housing? Also, it wouldn't really matter after it's stolen since what they really want are the bulbs and power converters.

The dealer etched the VIN on my windows - I did not ask them to, and they also had a $600 protection package on my car, but I did not pay for it, nor would I ever get it if I had to pay for it.
