Vin
I've seen quite a few threads out here talking about getting a new
TL with a later build date to ensure better tires, etc.
Can any of you guys tell me how do I read/interpret the VIN ?
Thanks,
Rachel

Last five digits are the build number. My guess is that the 40,000 # has been crossed. I would not buy anything with the last five digits being less than 35k at this point (else it will have been sitting on lot for a while, etc.).

43,000 and counting...
There have been about 43,000 TLs made since October 2003 as near as I can figure. The serial numbers being made this week are approaching 43,000. They are building about 400 per day, 2000 per week, 8,200 per month. If they are working three shifts, that means a new TL is born every 3.75 minutes.
I am just hoping (since mine is being built today) that they have made adjustments and corrections in the assembly process based on feedback from the owners and the service departments and warranty claims. The cars coming in now have the TU2 E42 Bridgestones whereas the previous E42s were PVC. According to reports on this forum, the TU2s are an improvement.
Let's hope they are dealing with the headliner issues, the squeaks and rattles as they fine tune the process. It just makes sense that making a line fix with a piece of felt tape here or a squirt of foam there is cheaper than tearing it down at the dealership on a warranty claim afterwards.
As to the leather quality and the package shelf stability vs. the subwoofer- we'll have to wait and see. I would think that the contractor providing the leather has had time to improve the quality if a demand was put on him by Acura.
We have to keep leaning on our dealers so they, in turn, will lean on the factory. The squeaking wheel gets the oil- LITERALLY.

Wow, based on this information, I checked out the new vehicle inventory at some
dealers in Western Pennsylvania. Most of what they have on their lots have build
numbers in the teens!

Those are the cars that are not selling (obiously). If I had known then what I know now I would have got the latest vin available for the color combination I wanted, rather than let the dealer sell me the earliest one. You should do the same. I browsed my dealer lot the other day and he still had a desert mist metallic with a vin around 3500.
If you really want to take one of the lot with an older vin, you should tell the dealer you know what's going on and want a big reduction in price.

You drove a Yugo or Pinto before this and anything else is considered flawless? Better yet, do you drive it or leave it garaged?
j/k... you got one built by new hired employees. They always want to do their best at first, then they fall into the American routine of "just enough".
