Venting b/c my car is a magnet for morons who f' up my sh!t and don't man up thread

the TL got tagged in the home depot parking lot... the m'fers!!! learn how to pull into parking spots...

the paint was scuffed but i removed all the surface scratches last night... now what to do about these dents... i would try pushing it out from behind myself, but don't want to ris putting more ridges into the fender line...

you guys that have had PDR, think it could work???

anyone got someone decent they can recommend in the area NJ/NY?

EDIT: forgot to add the pics..

PDR can fix that...but its gonna cost a good bit of money since its on the edge of that panel...I would say about 200-300 for that one

Couldn't hurt ...

If I recall, I saw someone using dry ice and a hairdryer, but yea if you flip the can of air upside down it would do the same thing...

i was actually thinking about this myself this morning... guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a try... i have a heat gun so it should warm up the panel even more... just need to pick up some compressed air...

otherwise i may have to look for some other PDR... one guy i emailed the pics to said he couldn't do it with PDR... me thinks he didn't want to take the risk with it being on the fende edge...

i feel your pain, but mine required a body shop visit. morons, can't park, and aren't even man (or woman) enough to leave a note to own up to their stupid mistake.

mine was closer to the rear passanger door all the way through the paint (softball sized dent with some pretty nice scraping).

hope PDR gets that out for you...at least its not gonna cost a lot to fix.

Reminds me when I went in to take my first drivers test. My dad allowed me to drive to the place. Upon parking I barely bumped into the side of the car in the next spot. They already had a dent there, but guess who got blamed for it? My dad was pissed!!

what's ironic is that the night before this happened, i tapped my neighbors car pulling out of my driveway... under 5mph but i dented the back corner of my bumper on the corolla (toyota dent the size of a softball)... i immediately went and rang the bell to tell him i hit his car (even tho no damage) and he came to have a look...

the next day, i took off the bumper, heated the plastic with a heat gun and slowly pushed it out from the inside... the PC and some compound and polish got off the scratches and marks transferred from his tire...

then the TL gets tagged the next day, but they aren't even courteous enough to leave a damn note... m'f'ers...

i feel ur pain buddy, as i recently watched as some little brat kid went to put the shopping cart at the grocery store into one of the stalls and ended up trying to make the 'shot' from afar and ended up missing by a mile and sending the cart info my fucking car! little kid or not, if his mom wasn't there, i likely would've smacked the shit out of him (disclaimer: my opinions are not those of azine as a business...lol). in all seriousness tho, i was irate and i ended up taking my frustration on his mom ( giggity).

damage isn't all that bad but definitely noticeable. mom of the year said she would cover damages but we'll see about that.

not trying to hijack or anything...just needed to vent a bit too. proceed ...

^do it!

Sorry to hear Kam, hope you get it fixed.

Last week, I parked 15 spots away from the nearest car at the YMCA, and when I came out there was a station wagon less than a foot from my passenger side and a nice big scratch/paint mark on my mirror. It took everything in my power not to kick a dent in their fender.

Sadly enough, I had the same style dent on my old TL. Except it was longer and wider but still right along the fender.

PDR wasn't confident that they could fix my dent either so I bit the bullet and had it fixed by a shop. Dent fixed, sanded, and re-painted.

I still hope that karma gets that MF that hit and ran me.

I never park in a place where my car is susceptible to another person damaging it. I ALWAYS park next to a curb so that completely eliminates atleast one car parking next to mine. Then I park a good distance away. This method has never failed me once. 16 years of driving and I have owned probably about 13 cars. Never once a parking lot issue. If you park by other cars shit is going to happen at some point or another. FOr sure try PDR first. The last thing you want is a repainted quarter panel because the color aint gonna match perfectly, and second they never match the clear coat texture right.

Ouch, that sucks. Doesn't even look like a car door did that. PDR won't work either, since it involves a crease line. Might be able to make it better, but you're gonna need body work to make it look right.

You can for sure get creases out. Heres an example of a good PDR shop near me....

so just a quick update... last night i tried the heat gun/compressed air trick... and it was about 50% successful...i was surprised, but it helped pull maybe half the dent out... i think that with the crease of the body line and the metal in this section being so thick, it will need to be pressed from the inside with some force... this Sunday, i'll try the heat/compressed air one more time... if i can't find a PDR in the area that will be willing to attempt to take out the dents, i'll take off the wheel, well cover and tr working out the dent from the inside... hopefully i can do it slow enough i don't create any waves...

but i have no doubts that the heat/compressed air trick will work on softer/larger panels as seen on youtube videos... it really does work...

Ask NSPEC he does PDR and he can give you a rough estimate. He lives in Texas so better off asking for his oPinion on this.

I also park at very far corners and ends of parking lots but realized that the further and further away from a crowd of people, the more likely the chance of having something stolen. It's hard taking care of your car defensively when you're not driving. To avoid door dings and fender benders one would think that parking at end spots far from where other people park would solve the problem; it does, but the further you go away, the less of an eye you have on your car...

someone actually kicked my front bumper and left a dent the size of a soccer ball. I wish i had pics to show you. I was watching a bunch of youtube videos and saw these crazy asian guys take massive dents out of their cars just with a heat gun and working at it from the inside. So i took my bumper off and just heated the surface and gently pushed out the dent from the inside. I know that the fender is MUCH stronger than the bumper but it will still work. Those guys were taking out crazy dents from metal parts, just heat it up from the outside and push from the inside

thats why i don't park far away. I always try to park in the first spot next to a barrier and park as close as possible to the island. the farther you park the more you are prone to vandalism and keying

Some jerk scraped my rear bumper when I was parked in a gas station parking lot so now there is a 2 foot long pink and black streak where there used to be some anthracite metallic paint. I could cover it up if I splurge on the aspec kit, though.

Oh, and when I owned a VW Jetta some lady clipped my driver's side mirror and broke the housing right off. It was parked on the street in front of my house and she actually knocked on my door and told me what happened. After I got the estimate to repair the damage she paid me, too. I never did get it fixed, though.

Another story... The first car I ever owned (a POS 1991 Eagle Summit) was parked in front of my house when it was totaled by a drunk driver at 2 or 3 in the morning. This guy drove off and fled the scene, but a neighbor went out and tracked the guy down.

This also happened to my brother. His first car, an older Dodge Neon, was hit and totaled out in front of the house. The guy who did it went to the police the next day and said he struck a parked vehicle. He knew that it was our house and the police officer called my father (who used to be a police officer in our town) and asked what my father wanted to do. He just wanted the guy to make it right so he gave my brother some cash and a job since he was unemployed at the time.

As you might suspect, I no longer park my car on the street in front of the house

Some mom in a SUV way too big did the same to my front passenger door. I was so ticked. My dumbass friend saw it but was too stupid and in awe to get a license plate or anything, so there was nothing to do. Some people are just so immature these days, it's a damn shame.

I was also in the same situation as you, but my car was keyed and had a tire slashed. Good luck trying to get that dent out. Im sure you can get most of it out with the the heat gun and compressed air.
