Valve Adjustment price?
 

I called two dealers for a valve adjustment. Acura of Bayshore said $590 and includes all gaskets. Smithtown Acura said $375 and they only change gaskets if necessary. Also Nardy Honda quoted 4 to 5 hrs at $113 an hour no gaskets only if nec.. Has anyone had this done on Long Island?

Hmmm... what symptoms or problems are you experiencing that would cause you to need to get your valves adjusted?

Recommended at 105k miles. If the valves are loose then you'll hear a louder than normal ticking sound. On the other hand, if they are tight there are no symptoms. I just had mine done the other day. To the OP, you might want to make a post in the Regions section

OP, with only 110K on the car, it's highly unlikely that you need your valves adjusted.

It's more of a preventative maintenance. I do here clicking after startup but it's not loud. I just wanted to know why 2 dealers are $200 apart from price. I priced gaskets and there like $20 total price for all.

When I reached 105k for my 2004 TL I asked my local Honda dealer their thoughts and they said only do the valves if they are noisy. Also they wanted over $400 for the job and when added to the timing belt it was getting to be a significant outlay of cash.

I then checked with my local independent honda mechanic. He recommended getting the valve adjustment at 105k (an actually have it done at every 60k miles if you can). He commented that Honda's old valve adjustment interval was 60k miles and increased it to 105k. But he thought going to 105k miles is too far without an adjustment. I am on my 4th Honda over 20 years I recall the 60k old school maintenance interval.

His price was only like $225 so I had it done. They commented on the post service report a few of the valves were sticking a little before the adjustment. Post adjustment I didn't notice anything except for better gas milage. I do a lot of highway driving and were I was averaging 32 mpg, I then hit 34-35 mpg post valve adjustment.

I am at 168k miles on my car right now and my goal is for it to see 300k. So the valve adjustment was an easy choice for me.

I think that's a realistic goal. As long as you keep taking care of the car, I highly doubt that this motor is going to give out from normal use alone. Although there are exceptions, I feel like the J32 is a very solid foundation for the TL.

I am going to have to do my timing belt early next month. I'll look into getting the valves adjusted at the same time.
