V8 Mustang GT fast off the dig?
i don't really know much about mustang, but the other morning around 5:30 AM (on my way to the lab); some guy in a mustang pulled up to me and motioned to do some pulls;
figuring it to be early in the morning, a straight stretch of about 3 miles, and no car in sight at all, i thought it'd be appropriate to have some fun.
well first thing that happens is i noticed when he revs, it sounds like a beast....and i realize it's the V8 mustang... so i think, well okay, it's powerful but probably heavy as a boat.
we did 3 pulls, granted i am A/T, and the first 2 times i was in SS mode, regardless on all 3 pulls we were basically dead even from 0-60... is that right? i had no idea the new gen mustangs could book it
i looked it up and i know it's 300 HP @ 320 tq i think? and i know i'm 3.2 vs 4.6L @ 250HP (220WHP maybe?)
i just always assumed that from a dig that big cars would be significantly slower.
either way i'll never get to do that again (odds of seeing that guy on an empty stretch of road is like 1%); oh well

In before it gets moved...
Ive raced my dads 06 Mustang GT w/intake/spacers/tune a couple of times on the track before. Off the start it is fairly even, untill like you said 60mph or so and the Mustang starts to pull off.
Ive also raced another 06 GT at the track and he was a auto, ended up beating him on a whole shot but same deal...he was pulling on the top end.
Lastly i raced a 2000-2001 GT, but stomped it. All depends on the car/driver i guess.
Remember you are trying to compare a RWD v8 to a FWD v6.
BTW...keep it off the streets.

what year mustang are you talking about? If it's the gen before the new one you could take him easy with all the mods you have. They come with 260hp, around the same tq. If it's the new one, i would guess he could pull on you, maybe auto? I know an MT would put you to shame... sadly i have lol.

You guys must live around people that don't know how to drive. Even a bone stock MT Mustang should annihilate a TL off the start. I guess some people have the tools but don't know how to use them.
Another misconception is American cars are heavy. A Mustang GT is about the same weight as a TL-S. Even my heavy looking Buick is 3,300lbs stock, 200lbs lighter than my TL.

yea a RWD V8 should take a FWD off the line everytime... however some ppl cant drive... once i beat a 5.0 92ish stang with a 04 Accord 4cyl 5spd... lol that was funny... i love bad drivers, good for bragging rights

The guy can't drive, otherwise the V8 GT can take your car. My neighbor has a Shelby GT500 and he's still learning how to shift good in races. Off the line, he has trouble shifting and a few times I almost caught up with him in the first gear or so lol.

Don't believe everything you read in magazines.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. There was an '08 GT 6MT at the track a few weeks ago running low 14's @ 98 mph. The guy was middle aged and certainly knows how to drive stick, having owned/raced many Mustangs over the years.

Yea, I've seen the 05+ Mustang GT 5MT run low 14s @99-100. They are quick, but not that much quicker than our J series.
I ran a driver-only 05+ 5 speed GT once when I was stock and had 1 passenger from about 40-75 and he pulled maybe 1/2 car.
