used TL vs new

Guys here is the deal... today we test drove a bmw 330, a cts, and a infinity and none of them had all the features that our TL has... This car is for my girlfriend and she didn't want to get the same car as me but in the realm of things I think that for the price this is the car to go ( that's why I got me one )
After I bought my car is when I found this site... After I found this site is where I read alot of issues with noises here, vibrations there and kinda got scared that I just had done 550 bucks a month mistake... I don't know about you but I have my radio blasting and i don't hear anything except that pretty sound of that engine purring I do notice a sound when I drive to work every morning right after i get into 2nd gear but i guess that is somewhat "normal".

I got my 04 TL with 52 miles on ( and i muscled a lip spoiler to be put on with the deal ) for 31K on the last week of December and i thought i had a steal. There lots of TL with 10K miles on them for like 28,500 which i'm sure I can get it down to at least 26,500... all I'm wondering is why are these cars being sold being a 04... makes me thing something is wrong with them... should I go with a 04 with los miles or put up the extra money and get a 05 is really what i'm asking... If We were to get a 05 with navi what is the most we should pay?!

BTW I LOVE MY CAR!

Good luck on getting a non navi for $26,500 with only 10k miles on it, without the car having some sort of hidden issues.

These TL's are really holding there value right now. I couldn't justify saving $2,500 on a car that is:

1. Not New
2. Uknown history (did it have issues)
3. Has 1 years worth of depreciation and miles already
4. Tires are worn a bit

Versus a new one:
Will have better resell value, starting from new on miles, new tires,
Better Tires!! Better driver seat. It's New, and you know what has happened
to it.

that's what I was thinking since the break in is the most important part of the car.... makes me wonder why someone would return a TL with only 1 year worth of use with out having some kind of problem... at least when you buy a new one it's like a dice roll you have a change of getting a done one.

NEVER buy a 1 year old used car unless you personally know the person selling it and the reasons why they are selling. I did once and it worked out well, since I knew the seller. Buy new if you can. If you cannot afford the few thousand more for a new car then the car was too much of a stretch for you to begin with. Just MHO..

I say go used if you can get a good price and the history of the car. I couldn't afford a new TL with navi so I called up all the non Acura luxury car dealers in my area and asked them to let me know if/when someone trades in a TL with navi. A week later I got a call from Motowerks in Barrington, IL. These guys usually deal with Infiniti's and BMWs. The car was a company car for a local business. After closing a huge deal they traded in all their Acuras and got Mercedes' instead. I haggled the dealer down a lot mainly using the fact that they didn't cary Acuras. I ended up getting my 04 Auto Anthracite TL w/ Navi with 9500 miles and new Bridgestone Potenza SP04 tires for $30,800. The rear lip spoiler, wheel locks, and all Acura rubber mats were already on the car so I didn't have to bother asking for those. They even took my piece of crap Ford Probe GT for 200 above KBB. This all jhappened last October so I'm sure the price would be even better now. Afterwards I went over to the Acura dealer where the car was originally purchased and had everyting checked out for free. Now it's several months and about 1200 miles later and all I can say is, it's the best decision (car wise) I have ever made. Good luck no matter what your choice is.

P.S. Those stock wheels and Bridestones will be for sale soon so let me know if you are interested.

Well glad it worked out for you..

I got the same car 2005 New w/Navi with same options
with 10 miles for 32,573

When you resell the vehicle yours will sell for about $1200 less on average
than the 05, So in my book you only saved about $600..

31k

31K is a lot of cake for a used car, I do not care how many miles are on it. And you are planning to get rid of the stock tires and wheels soon, which means another 2k minimum for a tire and wheel package bringing the car to about 33,000. This same car in 6 months, will be 2 years old.

A personal choice is what it is called and that is fine. As for used car values, if you think about trading in and look at edmunds, you will find that the dealers want to offer lower that what they state. If you car is in mint condition, they want to offer you the amount equal to avg. All the dealers I went to said about the same thing. They will talk price on the new car, but after you wheel and deal there they do not want to give you anythig for the used car.

If it is a 2G forget it, not unless it has low miles and orginal tranny.

If you're looking for an 05 with navi you should expect about $33K.

Used 3G Tl's are in short supply on used car lots, so they are still demanding a premium. I expect them to fall quite a bit when the 06 model finally gets out. There will be a lot more of them off lease then, and when there are 5 or 6 sitting used on an Acura Lot, the price will get more competitive.

While I don't totally agree with you about how much I saved, the point is: I still saved. I just came out of college and got engaged so I will take any savings I can get.

As far as wheels go, I found a place in Florida that was going out of business from the hurricanes so I got a pretty good deal on those too. (pics will be up soon).

All that really matters is, new or used, we still have TLs.

Perfect example of how people decide to spend their cash... If it was me I would get a 20,000 car save the cash and wait a couple of years for the 06 and 07 TLs to come out. Maybe they have resolved some of the problems with driveline vibrations, etc.

Buy a toy box (house) before buying the toys (cars) ) Just my way of thinking...

new vs used

I recently traded in my '04 TL with 6980 miles. There was nothing wrong with the car. I just needed a truck with 4x4. I got $26,500 as a trade in ( equivalent of $28,500 if I sold privately). The car is a 6 speed in DPG and sitting on a lot on Long Island. No accidents, no damage, no abuse of any kind just too small for my needs.
I don't know if this helps the discussion.

Yeah, that's what I thought...this stealership is probably the worst Acura franchise I've come across. However, it does have one of the better selection of used TLs I've seen...4 '04s on the lot when I spotted this one...

With the used TL's holding their value so well... .you might as well pay the extra $2k-3k for a brand new one and know exactly how each mile was put on it ... rather than wonder how the car was driven for those 10,000 miles. It would make tons of sense to buy a used '04TL if it was running for about 25 or 26k ... but I doubt you'd find one w/ 10,000 miles for that little.

This is what you can expect to see in a trade for a 1 year old car. keep in mind that when you trade a car in you do not pay sales tax on the traded amount as well so... you really traded it in for about 27825 here in mass...

the dealer will expect to make about 2 k on that car.

Hmm....wonder why it needed new tires after only 9k miles? I know what happens to loaners and leasers, especially fast ones like TLs. It ain't pretty.

Can anyone tell me If this deal sounds good? Jax,FL has an 04 WDP w/o Navi for 28,900 with 10,400 miles on it, the car doesnt even look as if it ever left the lot comparing it side by side to a new one. I really want the Navi but cant find a used one anywhere for less then 33k with Navi and they are all the wrong color. I can do the Navi swap in myself but finding one will be the hardest part for me, or at least one i know is working when shipped. Should i go for an 05 brand new with Navi as they have one there in WDP/Parchment, and if so how much should i make them sell it for. The place has the lowest prices in Florida on the Used 04 TL and lowest mileage also. You can check Acura's site and use 32177 area code to pull it up. I need to know this by tomorrow if anyone can help me. New or Used...sigh

29000 for a used car without navi that is considered to be 2 years old in about 6 months. The car listed for about 33195 new with an invoice of 30,300... A new 05 is 33470 with an invoice price of 32555.

So the used car is only 1400 off the orginal invoice....

I would knock 5k off the price as a minimum. If the car was worth 33,470 new with an invoice of 30,300 they could have sold that car for 31,500 easy. So the deal between the new and used should be about 5000 bucks... If you can get a new non navi for 32000, then the used non navi should be 27000... In the end it is up to you.. but that is to dollar for the car. tell the sale person you know th 05 has improvements etc., and that the car will be 2 years old soon enough...

In the end it is your cake... you spend it as you want to..

Hack I hear you man... Go for a brand new w/o navi and try to get it closest to 31k as possible I think it would be a good deal.... I'm in Ft. Lauderdale and the sticker on all of them here are 34,300... Man you'll have so much fun driving this car... It has to be a 6MT though.... I bought mines in December and I can't wait to do things so I can drive lol but my girl just got one this weekend and it's automatic.... you get my drift? I thought I was in another car other than the TL that I love... I got right into mines after the ride, went around the block and I felt better

Ok thx for the info..I held off a day to see what I could get done on the 05 with Navi, to be disappointed with a phone call that he cant tell me the price on the phone..<sigh>. Well I'm not driving there again untill I plan to pickup the car<tomorrow> heh and i want to know exactly what I should be set on for the price of the new one. I read many forums stating 32500 was the invoice on the 05 AT/Navi and that one could possibly get 1000bux knocked off that. Now that sounds great and I even saw a guy that bought one for that in NE florida in JAX which is where Im going to get mine. How about a link to an actual Invoice guide so I can show up with more then some printed out forum qoutes..LoL It's 6 months till '06's roll out..so do you think I can play hardball? They dont seem to have a shortage of Navi's there, as a matter of fact most of the new ones are Navi, unlike the used market where I cant find but 2 in the state of Florida within 500 miles. If anyone knows a dealer in FL/GA/SC that does Navi's for 32500 or below PLEASE gimme some contact info. Thanks again for the help!

Well I can surely say I want the 6MT but.....and here it comes..It's gonna be my wife's car< I just get to steal it and drive the sh*t out ot it>, so the 6MT is out of question. She has seriuos issues pushing all those pedals at once and moving the tiny little stick that seems to always find the wrong gear. I've always had MT as the counterparts always seemed gutless in anything Ive bought. However, the TL would end up in the back of some little old lady's car at the redlight if we go MT. Have u ever watched ur wife put on makeup while she drives...It's so scary to wonder how many women drive around doing that, and how many cars get wrecked from it!!!

Employee Pricing

HacKoWeLL,

FYI: Dealership employee pricing on the 05 TL w/ Navi is $32,785 at the New Jersey dealership where I just got my 05 TL WDP Navi Auto.

Invoice just went up from 32,373 to 32,573. You don't need "proof". It won't help one bit. They know how easy it is to find out invoice prices. If the salesperson tells you "if we sell it for that price we won't be making any money", you can mention the 3% holdback ($1,047) that Acura "kicks back" to the dealership for each car sold.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Jason

Ok thx for that info ..maybe I'll try that as a last resort once I give my final offer and am ready to pull the walk away trick. You know the sad part is my wife is a used car sales consultant at the highest volume used car dealership in NE FL, and She and I both know how bad people get ripped on sales. I just keep trying to explain to her that new cars and used car sales are totally different, you cant just rape someone on a new car like a used one..all the dealerships pay pretty much the same for new ones and you can find out that price as opposed to her dealership stealing cars at the auction and tacking on 5-8k to the price. For those of you that wonder why we are buying from a Acura dealership instead of buying from the auction ..well I go to them quite often to inspect the cars we buy with my sales manager and I have seen a slim handfull of '00-'03 TL's and CL's and {0} 04 TL's. Even had him call everyone he knew to try and get one..and Acura well they wont sell to us wholesale like the Chevy and Ford Dealers will with thier trade-ins. They informed me that they only get 1-2 certified Tl's a month, so I'm guessing thats why they dont sell for much off of new pricing. Oh and what about leasing..being as we only keep vehicles 2-3 years..and lose so much on resale is that a viable option..and how picky are they when u turn it in? I figured in the amount of money i put down on our Tahoe + the payments over 18 months ..then take what im selling it for..basically i payed 473 a month to rent it..i can lease a 05tl/Navi for 3 years for 492 a month..not much difference ..the gas alone makes up for that by far. So now Ive gone from used to new..and new to lease..If i dont plan on keeping the car for 4-7 years where it pays off..Is lease a good option? Any opinions would be appreciated as Ive always bought cars for cash or financed to own.Thx again guys
btw..the lease figure i came up with is amount paid monthly+downpayment divided by months driven

Hack my man why lease? why would you want to rent a car for 3 years... it's like buying a home... you get that money eveymonth right back and then sum when you sell. a car.... a car will depreciate but in 4 or 5 years if you can get 10K for it I'd say you are ahead of the game IMO... But if you want to rent it, pay 500 a month for it... more power to you...
I put 5K down and financed the rest... I make 533 a month payments for 5 years and with 100 xtra a month if I can, should some what cut that last year in half or the whole thing... my

Got an '05 WDP Auto/Navi with all dealer options for 33,000 last nite!!!! Thx for the info! I must say it took me 4 hours to get that price..I left at midnight and the place closed at 9pm. They really wanted to do business. It was the last WDP/parchment/Navi they had so they wanted to dick around..but when i said i was leaving and would go pick one up 45 miles away they got to business. Is it just me or do i not feel 270 hp under the hood?? I'm hoping the car "retunes itself" after the break-in period like everyone says they do. Thx for the help guys, Im off to get some tint.

Quite some time ago I bought a 1.5 y.o Infinti I30t 5speed with 15k miles, and, despite of all being said about buying "almost new" used cars, it has been an excellent choice. The key factor was that after taxes and fees I paid less than $20k for the car with sticker price of $31.5k
Paying close to $30k for an used TL doesn't make any sense, so I am shopping for a new one. So far I got a quote for a 6sp Navi - $2k off sticker and one free accessory.
