Used 2005 TL - needs minor TLC and your help
I have the paperwork signed for a silver 2005 TL with 75,000 miles. I picked it up for $14,950 and the interior and exterior and as showroom ready as I can see.
I did put in the contract that I have 7 days to get the car to pass an Acura Component inspection or I could return the car. Today is day 6 so Im pressing.
I took the car to my local Acura dealership and they listed three things that would need to be fixed before they would pass it and allow me to purchase the warranty.
1) Front Driver Door Actuator $181 (1.5 hours labor)
2) Rear Main Seal & A/T Pump Seal $1250 (12.0 hours labor)
3) Resurface rotors and replace brake pads $600
Once these are done they quoted me a few prices for warranty options. THis is not an Acura warranty but a Hendrick warranty whom the dealership operates under:
1) High-Tech Component
$50 deductable
Covers PT and all electronics, basically bumper to bumper.
3yr/36k $2033
4yr/48k $2194
2) Service maintainance every 5k, oil changes, tire rotations, services up to 90k includes timing replacement
$1301
The thing is I took the inspection findings back to the Hyundai dealership that I purchased the TL from and they put the TL up on a lift and showed me that there was no oil seal leak. Everything did appear to be in good order and there was no oil dripping but the car had not been run but 2 miles from Acura to Hyundai.
What I need everyones help on is two things:
1) Does the quote from the Acura dealership for the repairs sound fair?
2) Are these decent warranty options?
THanks everyone!

I don't know what that means but I'll take a shot.
Dealer repairs are always about 50% or so high in exchange for a supposed warranty. I would find someone else of high recommendation to do my work.
As fo an extended warranty, I would only get the one available from Honda/Acura (if any). Do a search and check prices.

Don't feed the...WTF?
I can understand how you feel about this, but let me put a couple of things into perspective, and maybe it will help.
I bought a CPO 04 TL, and paid I believe $900 for the extended warranty. I have yet to use it even once.
This is an '05, and you're talking between repairs, and the cost of the warranty - around $5,500.
My honest opinion - $900 is good for peace of mind. For $5500 - you can do a hell of a lot of repairs on your own if needed. I'd keep your money, and if you're worried at all, stick $100 in a jar each month until the car is paid off or you decide to sell it.
You'll make out much better

Forget the warranty. As for the fixes, respectively: 1) Don't know what it does; if the door works, skip it. 2) If there's no oil leak, skip it. 3) Do the brakes yourself or have them done somewhere other than the dealer.

This is a tough call. I think if you have any worry about this car that you should use your return option. It seems to me that you should continue shopping. Considering the cost of repairs and warranty, you might be able to find a certified vehicle for less.
