Undecided-TL or TL-S
Hey guys got a question I hope you can help me answer. Recently test drove the Acura TL and TL-S. Both cars seem to ride pretty comfortably, but I have been seeing threads where people say that after purchasing the TL Type S the car's suspension is too stiff and the ride is too rough, considering it is a luxury sports sedan. I know the TL Type S has a stiffer suspension on it. Could some of you TL-Type S owners let me know what you think about your cars ride now that you have had them awhile?

the ride isnt that bad IMO. the only time i notice a rough ride is when im going over a road that is in obvious need of repair. but i love how the car feels going through turns. their are always going to be pros and cons but in the end i love the car and dont have any regrets on my choice. the car is awesome!
by the way i dont know if its just me but i just put some 19" ronjon inspyres on and the ride actually feels smoother. i know that sounds wierd but its just something ive noticed.
Good Luck.

I've owned an '05 TL and now an '07TL-S. The TL-S is so much more fun...the ride isn't all that bad but it is rougher than the TL. The handling is much better as the S doesn't lean as much. I did change out the tires to Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's so that really helps with the turns.
It comes down to what you want....bigger front brakes, a bit of a body kit, more power, paddle shifters with the automatic.
If you want all the bells and whistles...get the Type-S, you won't regret it.

The wheels + two-tone interior + quad exhaust + different tail lights + slightly different headlights = UNIQUE TL...its worth getting the TL-S especially since its only 2k more than a TL w/nav

the ride is perfect...not too soft and not too hard, trust me if my wife approves, it must be ok...
if you get the regular TL you will probably regret it later, the car is awesome..
good luck with your decision

Three Wheelin'
After seeing a number of TL-Ss on the road, I have to say the look's starting to grow on me. I won't go so far as to say that I prefer that over the A-Spec I had, but the look is aggressive, powerful...almost like Superman to the more mild-mannered TL's Clark Kent. If looks were all that mattered, I'd get the TL-S over a regular TL anyday.

The TL-S fills the gap between the 4-door sedan that you need versus the 2-seater roadster that you'd love to own.
The navi is outstanding and the voice activation is super. So is the backup camera. All are standard on the S.
I find the ride firm but comfortable.
Good luck with your decision. You won't go wrong either way.

Having had an '03 S2000, I think the Type S is a little soft. For about $1800 or so over the TL Nav, you are getting so much more for your money not including a stronger and torqier motor.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I don't consider the TL a "luxury sedan". The Lexus LS is a luxury sedan. So is the Mercedes E-class and the BMW 5-series. The TL is merely.... how does consumer reports put it... an "upscale sedan".
Having said that, and after testing driving dozens of cars before settilng on the TL, I can definitely say that the TL is more sport-oriented than luxury-oriented. As a result, the '06 5AT TL that I bought definitely has one of the stiffest suspensions out of all the cars I test drove. At first, like you, I was worried about the suspension being too stiff and transmitting too much road noise. However, after having the TL for 9 months, I've decided the harshness and road noise is a very small price to pay for the ridiculously good handling. Well controlled body roll in cornering and very nimble and quick response to driver input are two characteristics that come to mind. In fact, I think the TL's handling is probably its best feature. Definitely go for the Type-S.
Honda's engineers did pretty amazing things when they designed the suspension for the TL... even though it's FWD, it almost handles as well as a 3-series and better than an IS (IMHO)

Ride is good
The TLS has a firm ride not a harsh or uncomfortable ride. I felt it had more of a nailed down more controlled ride than the TL. Plus it stops better, goes faster, looks better and and and..........
The RDX is a hard ride.

Type-S Ride
Over harsh bumps in the Type-S is not that bad the car rolls over bumps pretty good in my opinion. When your cruising at Hwy speeds and rolling over bumps it is pretty decent overall I think the ride quality is exellent

It's obviouslly a sportier suspension so the ride is a little rougher. On the highway you don't even notice. I drive the canyons in L.A. and when a road is rough you feel it, but it's so much fun to drive otherwise.

I find the Type-S ride a little rough but nothing annoying.
I'm fairly new to the forum but have yet to see anyone say that they bought a Type-S and wish they would have gotten the base TL instead. For about 4K more the Type-S gets you NAV, backup camera, 3.5L engine - 286 hp, paddle shifters, quad exhausts, better taillights in my opinion, active noise cancellation, etc, etc.
I struggled with this decision as well but landed on the Type-S due to the above. Don't regret it at all.

dude get the TL-S, I just test drove both cars and at first I didn't think the TL-S was worth it and was set on the TL, but after driving the TL-S, it's worth it the extra money! I actually preferred the ride quality of the TL-S over the base TL. The interior/exterior extras just make the TL-S dead sexy...
