Type-S vs Depo taillghts?
i am looking to change my taillights to the type-s lights. i know the OEM ones are alot more money then the Depo tail-lights..
my question is, is it better off paying more money for the oem ones or are the depo's good quality? also do both sets come with the rear sidemarkers?

depo are slightly a different shade i believe but look pretty dam close. with depo there may be slight fitment issues, but nothing serious. some may want to keep everything oem and others go with their budget. im sure there is a comparison thread here some where. just make sure there depo and not eagle eye(which sux). I have another brand, Eagle Eyes. They're made in taiwan and are very similar to Depos. Got them off ebay for about $120 shipped. They're alright but there's a small fitment issue, nothing major. The lower part of the taillight isn't flush with the bumper and protrudes just a bit. there was also slight fogging after a rain storm a few weeks ago but it has disappeared. I used the OE rubber seal w/ the OE lights and slapped it on the Eagle eyes. The plastic also seems to be of cheaper quality. But other than that, no complaints. Your choice whether you want to spend an extra 100-150 for OEM type s taillights.
forgot to mention that i have a small piece of styrofoam i didn't notice that got stuck inside the taillight. :-P
here's a few pics.

I put the Depos on mine yesterday, $256 shipped. Fit fine, pulled the upper & lower nuts up pretty snug (on the curved/radius side) first so they line up with the body good. No issues at all, you have to remove the rear wheels one at a time) 5 screws, 1 bolt, & 4 or 5 plastic buttons to let the bumper cover down a little to remove 2- 10mm hex bolts R & R the assembly.

These are the worst made tail lights ever. Look at the edges, they look like garbage. Try opening them...everything cracks. You get what you pay for, these actually piss me off.

No offense to you, OP. I just HATE eagle eyes tail lights. and 256 for DEPOs? Are you serious?? DEPOs are "fine" if you feel like having an after market/ off color/ cheesy looking tail light on your car. The insides are off color and the only reason why I say DEPOs are fine is that when you open them like I do, it does not matter what the insides look like. DEPOs you should be paying 180-220 shipped WITH side markers, 130-140 with out. 200-220 FOR OEM and 280 for OEM WITH SIDE MARKERS. I DO NOT KNOW where you guys are getting your tail lights from, but do some research. 5 minutes of research could save you 75 bucks, like in that OP's case. Also, like KEB1SPEC says, the insides of the OEMs are a lot stronger. AGAIN, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

Depos are nice replacements for what you pay for. I have bought fogs and so on from them before and haven't had any issues with them or fitment problem. I might buy a set from them but not the type S style.

I was not aiming it towards you, but this government should go after the scum that rips people off and scammers. It makes me upset that the government lets garbage like this allowed to be sold as DOT replacement. People who scam others or screw people over should be put in jail. I just live my life by you get what you pay for, something that seems too good to be true never is.

Depo tails and sides=$200 shipped from ebay--search for seller "fishcake"
Tim's combo deal from hondacuraworld is a sweet deal on OEM, too.
Research and save!

Some people cannot afford OEM. If that was the case everyone would be doing it. Yes off brand parts sometimes might not fit right but its what some people can only afford. OEM is obviously the best but to some people they just don't see the worth....If I drove a 1989 Sentra I am not looking for new parts for that car. I am looking for replica parts...Why would I spend money on a part thats worth more than the POS car? At some time buying OEM is not feasible at all...such as owning a car thats a piece of crap or if its your beater.

Before I was not pushing OEM, but I was saying like the OP paying 156 shipped for DEPOs could have spent 178 shipped = 22 dollars more for DEPO side markers. DEPO tail lights should be 120-140. My argument about buying OEM was that there is a difference between paying 120-130 (DEPO) and paying 200-210 (OEM), but if your spending 160 for DEPO, what is another 40 for a piece of mind. Research!!
You have to look at the situation in a marketing perspective also, you get what you pay for which is two fold. One is that the quality is obviously better with OEM, they may look alright but after a while they may crack or leak like the OPs eagle eyes. Two is that resale value is there in OEM. One pays 140-160 for DEPOs but good luck selling them, I wouldn't be surprised if you only get back 75. OEM you pay 210, but you will sell them right away since the demand is there and for 150 easily. So in the long run DEPOs you will lose around 100 and OEM around 50. Just my opinion.

I got on a GB a while back for OEM side markers and TL-S tails. From what I remember it wasn't much more than DEPO at the time.
IMO find a good deal on OEM. These parts are exposed to a lot of UV rays.
