Type-S sterring.

i've had my 07 Type-S for about 2 months now and yesterday while driving a friends 07 Type-S I realized how much more stiffer the steering was on that car than on mines. Does anyone know what could be the reason why my steering is loose? I never thought the steering would be that stiff but I like the stiffness in my friends Type-S way better than mines.

I can't explain the variation in the stiffness of the steering between two TL-S's, but I can tell you that the steering on my new TL-S is quite a bit stiffer than on my '05 TL. Like you, I like the stiffer steering on my new car better than the old one. I haven't done anything to the tires (or anything else, for that matter!)

Potential factors are 1) tire inflation and 2) wheel alignment.
Higher tire pressure = lighter effort; underinflation = more steering effort.
Check your tire pressure cold to make sure it equals or is within a couple pounds of recommended pressure, then check the wear on your tires. If nothing is amiss, have friend's Type-S pressures and wear checked as well. If nothing is different, it is more likely to be an alignment issue.

That's because you have to talk to your car, try it tonite. Second thing that you have to do is give her a name. Finally, if that doesn't work then ask your friend what is she doing different from you with her car? Maybe its the way that you drove the car in the begining. If that doesn't work then take it back to dealer. LOL

It's likely brand new, or has less than 1000 miles. Everything about my type s was stiffer when new. The steering has softened so has the clutch. This is just the car breaking in. If not than it could be tranny type, difference in tire, and everything else already mentioned.

I have asked this question on the forum before. I answers that i got was that the type S is definately stiffer so that it can give you better handling.

It could be the difference of tires. When I was buying my car they said they have an upgraded tire options for $400 more. And Will Y could be right, the tire pressure might be high on yours and low on your friend's TL.

My type-S steering was very stiff when I first got it three months ago. I have about 2K miles on it and have noticed that it is not as stiff so it is probably just breaking in.

I've had my 2007 TL-S for what, a whopping three days now and when I took it out for a drive tonight I realized how stiff the steering feels. I've read that the steering has been stiffened in the type-s to give the driver a better feel for the road. After all, I don't particularly like the power-assisted steering feel where there is no sense of "feel for the road". However, coming from an Audi A4 1.8T w/ sport package, I've got some getting used to. TL-S = larger size, different power band, steering, etc. Nonetheless, this thing has got me grinning from ear-to-ear.
