Type S headlight DECISIONS DECISIONS DECISIONS

So I just picked up a set of type s headlights...my current ones are currently pending sale

This is what my car looks like.

My old headlights were completely blacked out with zkw-r, orion v2 led halos and V2 switchbacks.

This it what my old setup was

you get the overall idea of what the theme is on my car...

Now im confused on what I should do with the Type S headlights. What do you guys think will flow with my car? BTW my front sidemarkers are white leds
1) should i KEEP IT STOCK. I think it looks pretty good even with the very tiny amber diffusers on the type S

If I do keep it stock..how do you guys think the V2 switchbacks will look if the headlight still has the amber pieces in them? Will it look weird when the headlight is on during the day? I dont think the amber reflectors affect the lighting in anyway so the V2 switchbacks should overpower them. Also what is the bulb size for the blinkers that I need to go with for the Type S. I purchased the smaller ballasts so all I think I need to change is the switchback bulb size and I should be straight right?

2)should i Remove the amber diffuser and seal the headlight back up
3)should i Paint the amber diffuser black and seal the headlight back up

Did you do them yourself and would you do it again based off of difficulty level?

He had a friend do them. Nothing on cars is per-say hard, but everything requires knowledge of what could or couldn't happen and know what to do and what not to do. Many people have done their own headlights and it comes out great, then I have seen some do the headlights and hack up the paint/leave finger prints all over the insides and the chrome rubs off easily on that strip. Just take your time, be careful and it shouldn't be hard.

There are many threads on this. I would vote tint the amber.

The only suggestion I have is to take a look at JnC's headlight threads, and find a headlight setup you like the best. There are lots of pages in the threads so lots of pictures.

That's what I did.

Cheers

BMW OEM angel eyes don't look as good as orions or aftermarket!

I'll get pics later today.

Like I already told you, amber corners with white LEDs will look awkward ONLY during the day time/dusk, from a SIDE view.

For me at least, how I mod my headlights depends heavily on the type of wheels I have.
I plan on running only silver wheels and so I removed the amber pieces so it could be clear to match. Eeeeeeeveryone is doing CF corners -.-

How can bulbs burn out on only type-s headlights as you mentioned haha.. the type-s headlights fit 1157 bulbs so if you get 1157 LED bulbs you shouldn't run into any problems... Make sure you get the resistors.

Maybe what you were referring to was the fact that you have an 05 TL which means you have 05 connectors, which will not fit behind the 1157 turn signal socket.

I know bforbrian was able to, but has anyone else been able to successfully put a type S headlight onto an 05 TL and what method was used to get the turn signal sockets to fit properly

probably going to do zkw/flat black corners with amber diffusers removed and keep the clear ones in there

now lets hear what methods ppl have used to get around the 1157 socket problem

You can buy the 1157 type S sockets from Acura of one of the online parts stores for 8/each (33302-SR3-A01). Then you take the original socket unclip it from the cars wire harness and bring them both in the house. Then like Frankenstein you dremel the bases off and create a hybrid socket! This way you don't have to cut the factory wiring at all. I'll try to find some pictures of mine that I did I hope I took some.

I made a little write up a while back like this,

Well thats amost what I did it but why would you choose to keep the 7443 bulbs? All I did was convert the base I'm still using 1157 bulbs. 1157 are a much better choice and more readily available then the 7443.

I didn't have any problem finding the 7443NA bulbs, i bought 10 for almost the same price as two 1157NA bulbs here in canada on ebay. So that seemed like the easiest solution to me. I was originally going to convert the plug part like yourself but decided the way i did it was much quicker and required no soldering.

I would like to see how you converted the plug part if you have a pic though, as that was originally my plan.

so i have the solution for the 1157 socket problem but ran into another issue. One of the headlights did not come with the gasket that goes behind the drl area. Do you guys think this problem is substantial enough were it was cause a buildup of moisture?

Nice ass Headlights, I keep Contemplating on doing this myself. I wanna change out the Projector Lens and make my orange reflectors blacked out. On a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being the most difficult what do you rate this mod??

if its your first time the hardest part is getting the courage to do it. Putting the lights in the heaven can be scary and you have to apply force to open them up...the corners are pretty fragile and you need to be careful. Then you have to seal it up properly. If you have never done this before I suggest you send it to someone and pay them to do it properly

So the three wires are soldered for the turn signal and they work. I currently have V2 switchbacks with resistors installed and they worked perfectly fine on my old 05 headlights. However, for these type S headlights "maybe because the 3 wires were soldered" the switchbacks dual blink ONLY when the headlight is on. When the headlight is off they blink only amber and normally. For those that did the conversion any ideas???
LED guru roger any ideas???

Either the drivers is too low or the passengers to high, you should only see one step not two. It is the worst in the last pic, the others are not too bad.

Damn now I want zkw's. That is clean and what acura should have done in the first place.

I like the flat black also but not sure on a CBP, maybe cf would be better or like a gunmetal solid color.

Car is looking good.

You need to raise your drivers side headlight a little more, the cut off should line up, not look like a stair case. Good job doing it yourself though, came out good.
