Type S auto or Navi auto?

I am about to trade my 2004 TL Navi auto for a 2008 TL S Type auto or a Navi Auto. I prefer the S Type but my wife, who has arthritis in her hands, wrists and shoulders finds the steering in the non-S Type easier to use.

I have seen references to some concerns about the 3.5 litre engine in the S Type (I believe it was a reference engine knock). Does anyone know if that is an issue in the 2008 model? Are there any other issues I should consider when making my decision to go to the S Type or Navi?

As an aside, it sure is unfortunate that the colour selection in Canada is so limited. I love some of the colours available in the U.S. that we cannot get here.

I love my 07 TL-S and I have not had any issues with the car at all.

I can understand the issue with your wife's arthritis, but who will drive the car most of the time. If she will be the primary driver, then get what she wants, but if not, the TL-S is only a little stiffer than the base TL and should be ok for occasional use.

They are both great cars.

Good luck

go with the Type S if you can, the Navi is standard, plus you get a bigger engine and few other upgrades standard that the base TL would considered as upgrades. The base TL does not have Navi as standard, that is considered an upgrade as well.

In my opinion you can't go wrong with either, both cars are beautiful and you will be happy, either way.

It all depends on your needs as a driver.

I have the Non Type-S Navi and if I wouldnt have been so Upside Down on my trade-in, I would have def gone with the Type-S. Dont get me wrong, I have no regrets. Either way, as long as you go with the WDP, all others, type-s or not will be envious. Especially those NBP'ers.

Sorry Type S. Actually, my wife has an RX8 which has stiffer steering than the TL. She was hoping that I would get the looser steering so she could take my car on the days her arthritis is acting up. My dad lives in the same condo and she said she would take his Buick on her bad days. She actually likes the Type S better as she noticed a real difference in the noise levels between the Type S and the Navi.

I have owned 4 3G TLs, 04, non-navi, 06 navi, 07 navi and 08 Type-S. The Type-S is kick ass! It is the best car I have ever owned. The 3.5 is a fine tuned and refined machine. The Tpye-S is the pinnacle of what a TL should be. Now having said that, after owning my Type-S 5 months I have aloaner navi TL for 2 days and I find is liek mush compared to my TL-S. The steering is more precise in the Type-S, the car more nimble and controlled. The regular TL is not bad, I loved it when I owned it, but I can't go back now. My engine purrs like a kitten, no knocks, very amazing refined machine. I do use only Shell, Chevron and on occasion Quick Trip (all top Tier feuls). The Type-S steering is not a free wheeling as the base, but I don't find it that bad and I have weak joints (pre-arthritic). The biggest thing for me was the Type-S seats, they are comfortable and very supportive for me, I get back aches with weak lumbar support and the Type-S is a great improvment over the base TL.
