Type-S Aspec on Base TL

Orders all parts earlier this week! I picked up the Front and Rear yesterday, Today i should be getting the Type-S Tails and the side skirts. Does anyone have tips on installing Type-S Aspec on Base TL. I was looking at factory marks for holes but that definetly doesnt work for this project.

I have looked around but can only find Base aspec installs. I am talking more about the Front lip, I already found DIY for rear.

Thanks for any help you can send. Pics will be up tonight after install!

let me get this straight you want to put the type-s front lip on a base model tl, correct? to my understanding it won't work period. You might have to swap the front bumpre in order to put that lip on. Also keep in mind there are 3 different front lips for the tl.

1. Base model front lip
2. Base model front a-spec lip (which has the bottom part in black)
3. Type-s a-spec front lip (which only goes on the type-s of course for 07-08)

I could be wrong about it being able to fit though i never saw anyone with it on a base model tl without swapping bumpers. I myself am install the base model lip on my type-s with a little modding to it to make it fit:wish::thumbsup:

monkeyquach 06-04-2009 01:26 PM

Yes you are correct. I am going to put Type-S A-Spec front lip on a BASE TL. I guess i will have to take alot of pictures. Anyone else have any input on whether or not this is possible, i briefly put the lip on and it looks like it will fit, just need to drill the correct holes. It will be a fun night when i get off of work today. Hopefully the dealer has my side skirts in.

Tripnbeats 06-04-2009 01:46 PM

not 100% about this but i think it was done wiht no mod before. im not sure about the way the front fogs interact with diff angles on the bumper n the kit. but maybe u can get away with it, the back u will have to cut bigger holes for the exhausts. good luck post some pics when u can

J-STEELE 06-04-2009 05:17 PM

I think you might have to modify the Type-S front lip because, I don't really know, of the fog light. Type-S curves down and the base model curves up. Hmmm But for the rear I think it should be good. I THINK... Maybe a little cutting on the bumper cuz of the exhausts outlets are smaller.

PEACE!

I myself have been wanting to do this for a LONG time. Can't wait to see the pics!!!

Tito483 06-05-2009 11:51 AM

This might be just me but normally i hear about owners wanting to put the base TL front lip on their TL-S, not the other way around.

Definitely post up some pics though...

sac2006TL 06-09-2009 11:58 AM

Any pics?

BAT3STL 06-09-2009 05:19 PM

Waiting for pics, so you installed the TL-S a-spec front to the base TL bumper?

Prom date?

Hmn interesting. Needs some black'd headlights to help with the front aggressiveness.

BAT3STL 06-09-2009 10:24 PM

I can't wait to see it in person.

Did Melvin tell you we meet almost every friday?

princelybug 06-09-2009 10:29 PM

Nice job!

erick3 06-10-2009 02:51 AM

i'm confused, how come your headlights are single bezeled? i thought you said you were an 07 TL?

EL BAN 06-10-2009 07:21 AM

Very nice! Great job!

rbpwrd 06-10-2009 08:15 AM

Need some more details on your car?

Is that an '04-'06 base model bumper that you put the type s a-spec lip on? If so, good job for being a guinea pig and testing this out! It sheds a lot of light for other 04-06 owners who are wanting the type s a-spec front lip, but don't want to have to replace the bumper with the '07+ type S bumper.

Can't wait to hear the details!

Bubz 06-10-2009 08:20 AM

So does it fit on good? No Modification?

I have a 2006, I want the Type S Front and Rear Lips

jimsta 06-10-2009 08:59 AM

Looking at his sig, he just put on the Type S on an 07 which I would think fits jsut fine... i think people in here were doubting the fitment of putting the Type S front lip on an 04-06 bumper.

True, however, he also asked about fitting the lip on to a base model TL. The base model fog light cutouts are different than the type S ones. As many have stated, unless you replace the bumper to a type S bumper, the type S lip can not be fitted to a base model 07 bumper.

in for some clarifications on this.

Tripnbeats 06-10-2009 09:21 AM

the bumper on the 04-06 is smaller in length (by i think an inch or an inch n a half) than the 07-08, there would be a fitment issue. the bumper on the 07 n up base model there shouldnt be a prob and there isnt because hes not the first to do it. as for the lights i cant explain y hes got the 04-06 lights on there but its the interior of an 07 base.

monkeyquach 06-10-2009 09:35 AM

Hey guys,

I bought the car on 4/24/09 with 30k miles. As far as I know it is a Base 2007 Acura TL. I wouldnt think any mods were done before I bought it. I bought the TL-S Apsec kit all around and that was what i installed. I did not put the TL-S front or rear bumper on it.

As far as prom it was my friends prom and she happened to be there, haha.

If you have any other pic request let me know so I can get those to you guys.

Yes melvin told me about the meets on friday. I WILL BE THERE this week!

AlexNYC 06-10-2009 12:28 PM

Monkeyquach can you post some pic of the rear kit please
I have an 06 base TL, i want to ask anyone know if the a-spec rear kit will fit?

damn, here i thought i was the ONLY one doing this mod:tomato:
answer to your question; i think you ment "does 07-08 Type-s rear lip fit on a 06 base" as far as i know, there were no "a-spec" kit changes made for 07-08.

07 Type-s rear bumper cover(is what Monkey has) does fit. However, due to quad tip design exhaust opening of type s bumper, you're going to have to modify(trim) stock bumper to reflect that subtle change. as far as the bumper alignment it is a perfect fitment. (i've seen monkeys and it looks perfect)

ntuner 01-07-2010 09:12 PM

monkeyquach,

Have you done any modification (to the bumper or lip) to fit type s lip to base bumper?

bump.. I want to know more about this mod as well :yum:

BayRoC 08-08-2011 05:31 AM

So let me get this straight... for my Base 08' It IS possible to merely put on the TypeS ASpec front WITHOUT putting on the actual whole TYPE S Front Bumper on my base. Any DIY guides yet?

I have a base 08 and someone else told me that the type s kit would fit without changing the bumper.

I haven't done it myself, in fact, I'm just ordering the base ASPEC kit. Not sure what the difference is besides the rear exhaust size and the black area on the back.

Does anyone know how much the kit adds to the rear bumper? Does it make is a couple of inches lower?

Thanks, I didn't want to start an new thread just for that one question.

BTW: Nice car OP. I'd like to see it with cleared amber and blacked head lights to match the feel of the car.

tpham86 10-04-2011 11:28 PM

bump this up for answers. I want to replaced my 07 aspec lip with a type-s lip. I was under the impression the fogs were different shapes and it wouldnt fit right. Let us kknow what mods you did to make it fit please!

Nitrous 10-07-2011 05:18 PM

Now will this also work with a 04-06 tl base to put the type s front lip on??

no...

anionrings 10-24-2011 10:02 AM

So theres no modification required to fit the TYPE-S ASPEC onto the 07-08 Base Front bumper?

what about the curving upward fog light on the 07-08 base bumper?? it doesnt effect how the Front ASPEC sits on the bumper??

ProjectAK 12-02-2011 09:05 PM

I have the base model 05 TL. Does anyone know if if the 07 Type S exhaust mufflers and tips would fit? would i have to buy the type S bumper or will it work? also any ideas where i would get these parts. thanks for the help

This thread has conflicting answers. Can someone with absolute certainty tell me if a type s a-spec front lip kit will fit on an 04 base. I would love to do it.
