The TL is a great highway cruiser. I've driven from Tucson to San Diego and back, Tucson to Vegas and back, and Tucson to El Paso and back multiple times. It chews up the highway like a champ, even at 80 the motor is still pretty much dead silent. The hardness of the seats helps prevent your ass and lower back from sinking and slouching into the seat so you never get fatigued. The stereo sounds great at highway speeds which really helps.

in some ways its better
more comfort and its faster
but handling is a dream in that escort
and its actually more fun to drive because its stick and you interact and feel the road better in that car
when i get my boost and 4WD that car will be unstoppable!!!

everyone thats even been in that car wants to get one now lol

you'll love it. I drove from Cape Cod, MA to the Florida Keys and then all over Florida and home. Total mileage was 4,230 approx. I drove 95% of the time. It's a great highway car. The trip computer showed the car got an average 29 mpg for the 4,230 trip including backroads, tons of traffic and everything else. Can't complain at all, never felt painful or anything.

Not impressed!

The ultimate ride is when I drove clear across the US from Vegas to MD with all of my family's belongings in a rental moving truck - by myself!! I was scared as hell on the steep grades cuz that fucker kept acting like it was gonna give out and I didn't know it was because of the grades and what not! I'm talking it first started outside of Vegas and I was like oh shit, ain't nobody around! Dayummm!! I had never done that before! Serious mountains, snowing in Denver with that mile-high shit, and 18-wheelers jacking me up and taking turns doing drive-bys and shit, especially in the Allegheny mountains! I was praying! Never again! Now, I'll kick some ass in my TL doing that, but never a truck like that again!!!

By the way - be sure to take a picture of the front of your car when you get to Florida...you gonna wish you drove that Escort! Herbie the "love-bug" is out playa! Hahahahahahaha!

My TL is the 3rd car I've owned and the most "enjoyable" to drive from SF to LA and back. It's roughly a 6 hour drive each way. My 93 civic hatchback was a fun car but did NOT have A/C and this is driving through central CA which gets hot. My 97 Accord EX was better, but didnt have passing power. The 2006 TL is the best so far, much more comfortable, way better in passing. Only done one SF-LA trip with it though..

Bro thats a crazy story. Nothing like driving a uHaul cross country.

I freaking hate love bugs. I just recently made the trip down to Miami to see the family and for just being a 2.5 hour drive my car was completely caked with guts.

i drove thru a cloud of lovebugs on the I95 my front end was a big booger instantly
it took 10 mins with one of those gas station scrubbers to clean my front end up every time i stopped to get gas
the mileage on this car on the highway is amazing
it was actually higher than the advertised MPG
it capped out at 30 i think it was higher
on our 14 gallon tank i went about 500+ miles
made it in about 14 hours
average cruising speed ~75-80mph
when i was down there i got my front pads changed at fountain acura
they have much better service than the brooklyn dealers!!!!
there is still too much in orlando
all these civics wanted to race me all the time

I don't drive more than 3 hours, anything above that is "flying" territory

but good luck!

OK wtf is going on here? No matter what you do to an escort it's still an ESCORT. Basically fords follow up to the Pinto lol... And all due respect you can tell the car has made the trip to florida 15x it looks beat up... And that mesh grill looks like painted chicken wire.... I'm not saying I've never had a beater but come on now AN ESCORT EVO... Take some 7up mix it with some white wine and call it cristal while your at it....

I'm about to drive from NY to FL in a couple of days too.

the last time i did it was last september.

let's just say the TL cruises too well and gets you in trouble sometimes.

I got picked up in Georgia with a 500 dollar ticket.

i suppose the TL is for long trips and the escort is a daily beater.

i do that too so mileage doesn't matter.

got 8000 on my 06 TL.
