Transmission Slip from 3rd to 4th

I have an 07 Acura TL type S. It has 184k miles on it now. I am experiencing a slip when it changes from 3rd to 4th gear. I priced a new transmission from the dealer at $3200. Plus $1400 for the labor to swap it. Is there somewhere else to get this transmission from? I don't really want to fix my old one bc as I have learned in the past is that once a transmission is cracked open it will be nothing but problems from that day forth.

Is it MT or AT?

I would first replace the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches...would be much cheaper than a new transmission if it fixes the problem

I would also change the tranny oil first as well...its solved the issue for alot of members.
Do a search for transmission oil swap and ull find the exact type there (I beleive its acdelco friction modified)

Ok thank you both. I will change the fluid first. I thought it was a 100kki change but after reading some threads here earlier it seems to be a 20-30k mi change. I flushed it at 60k and I haven't touched it since other than adding a pint about 20k mi ago.

try the transmission fluid drain and fill, and pressure switch senors. May or may not save your transmission, 184k miles is a lot to get out of a honda transmission, it's had a good run

Aren't there any transmission shops in your area? I'd assume that if your city is big enough to have an Acura dealer they should have a few transmission shops as well. I'd never trust the dealer with a knew transmission issue. Anything that's wrong with it they will say you need a new tranny.

Ill agree, 184k is decent mileage from a Honda AT in my experience. Not sure if I have ever read of a confirmed failure here on Azine or anywhere, from a 07/08 TL 5AT, maybe just because most of them haven't reached that kind of mileage yet, anyways the new pressure sensors might help and certainly a fluid change.

If you thought it was a 100k mi service for the trans fluid, your still 20k over... and with a high mileage tranny, thats just a death sentence waiting to happen.

I would personally do the pressure switches (helped smooth out my tranny at 85k), and a 3x3 but more than likely your putting a bandaid on a wound needing stitches imo.

Try the pressure switches. That totally did it for me and cured the quirky shifting about 95%. I have 142k on mine as of right now. If that doesn't work chances are you are in need of a rebuild. In the future try to change the fluid every 30k or so.

Never flush Honda trannys only drain and fill method. ENEOS tranny fluid is amazing. But I have heard for dying trannys last resort maybe to flush. But the 3rd and 4th pressure switch replacement also would be your last resort prior to dropping$$$$ on a new trans. I have read many post of people getting really good deals on rebuilt trans from $700-$1300 installed you may want to search around. Depending on how much longer you plan to keep your car. Rebuilt tranny may be a good option.
