Tool To Do Oil Filter Change on 06 TL?

Which is the best tool to change the oil filter with - the "strap" type filter tool of the type that connects to a ratchet and grabs the bottom indentation at the end of the filter? After the first free service I'd like to perform the minor work myself. Thanks. Steve

personally, i just grab it with my hand, when you put a new filter on, just turn it, then give it another 1/2 a turn and you're good....no need for a tool =)

Well if you can't get a good grip there are these rubber "thingies" like 3" x 2" strips of rubber that my wife uses to open jars that are close too tight, they sell them at most supermarkets, I have a few in my tool box...

yeah, but it's always good to have a decent filter wrench in case the dealer or someone else has put it on tight. I put mine on hand tight, which makes for easy removal. I do have a filter wrench in the garage, though.

It's hard to find the filter tool that fits on the end of the filter because the Acura filter is so small, so a strap wrench is a good alternative. That's what I use, but be sure you get one small enough to clamp around your filter. Since there is so much room around the filter the strap wrench works as well as the socket type.

If you decide to go aftermarket, like a Mobil filter, you probably won't have a problem finding a socket type that fits.

Whatever you do, a screw driver should be your LAST resort.

That brings back memories. I had a filter years ago that didn't want to budge, but a well placed screwdriver did the trick. Makes for a bit of a mess though.

Ditto! I bought one for the Mobil1 filter that I use; I can loosen it with two hands ... but it's good to have a wrench handy. Yes, I'd get the 3/8 " rachet type that fits on the bottom of the filter - they work great (with extensions & joints) if it ever gets too tight.

Apropos screwdriver on rare occasions I still use it on my Harley.

The OEM filter has a 67mm hex. I bought a 67mm sheetmetal hex filter socket (3/8 drive) at Autozone for about $4. The 67mm size is common for motorcycles and Miatas.
