Took my car to get the oil changed... Got a 2200 estimate back
I took my car to Acura of Peoria today to have the oil changed with Mobil 1. They did a 27 point inspection of my car and gave me this list...
Front Brakes are between 3mm to 5mm. need to be replaced
Leak at Carrier Bearing... Replace intermediate shaft
Replace Air Filter
Flush Brake system... System is dirty
Flush Power Steering... System Dirty
Found Serpentine Belt to be in poor condition... replace outer belts and timing belt.
My car has 119k on it now.
I have the records from the previous owner and the brakes we all replaced at 104k and 107k the timing belt, water pump, compressor belt, tensioner, spark plugs and the coolant system was flushed.
I called my service writer back to ask him about this stuff and his whole story changed from me needing to have it done to Oh well we just wanted to make you away that you want to have this stuff done 60k after it was last done. Why would they tell me I needed this stuff done when it was just done... Kinda concerns me a little as to whether it was actually done at the previous dealer ship or if this new dealer is being shady. Whats everyones thoughts? What should I be looking for? Thanks

They are definately hurting. There was like 50 cars on the lot total and all they had were the MDX and New TLs. They didn't have a single used car either.
Regardless thats not how you create business. I was gonna have them replaced my seats in the near future but not now.

service writers look at mileage and tell you things based on that without getting the techs inspection report--maybe they forgot to look up your file or only had last report at 60 and went off that before talking to tech
Writers are SALES people- selling car repairs---they work with quotas and commissions~
You do the math
The brake pads min allowable thickness is 2mm- if its really measured at 3 its time, but most places guess rather than measure
Good techs can tell from experience how belts, brakes and things are- except timing belt which is hidden and goes on 7 years/100kmiles
The AC belt is right there to view by the tech!!
Brake fluid should be done every year starting at year 3- per acura and common sense
PS fluid EVERY 60kmiles is correct -
you can DIY that along with engine air filter and cabin air filter- which should also be replaced every year
Find a good private owned - lower overhead- honda acura shop.. look in the phone book
As long as the 105 service with water pump etc was done- you are good-
check the radiator hoses if not replaced yet--if soft its time

car got brakes at 104 and the 105 full service at 107 with belts --now he is at 119-
Its possible to wear brakes in 15 like that if you commute stop and go or do some back country road fun

that carrier bearing is an immediate issue- if the rubber boot has broken on any of the CV bearings, grease gets out and grit gets in- bearing failure can equal loss of wheel at speed~
those are the drive axles from trans to wheels
Go get that checked asap at another shop- a tire and suspension place is qualified and lower priced
expect $100 something for axleshaft with new bearings- buy as assembly
call napa for a price too
1 hour labor to install
places like bigo will tell you $700

Take it to another Acura dealer and have them do the same inspection. If they come back with something different, then something is up. If they come back with the same problems, see if they will beat the other dealerships price. Doing that may save you a couple of bucks

I guess you misunderstood what I wrote. All of these were already done within the last 15k miles so I found it kinda odd that the belts would have gone bad in that amount of time. The brakes I am fine with other than the 500 dollar quote to fix em. I do mostly city driving be the car had 4k miles of straight highway on the drive home. Im going to do the Intermediate shaft for sure. I was just concerned that the other dealer may not have done the work they said they did. Im gonna take it to another acura dealer and see what they say as well.

the other dealer did the 105 service-they dont screw you on stuff like that- its not worth it- too easy to get busted and lose the business license to operate
this service writer is going by mileage without looking at the car-
the info I gave you above was based on my former life working in the industry~
You look up the records and hope no one else worked on the car since then!
119kmiles and no record (from their shop) in their system of the 105 because it was done elsewhere- it must need a 105!!!,,until the tech come back with his report of everything ok
bummer for the salesman
You dont have to have acura do any of the services- look in the phone book

A timing belt "recommended" at 100k does not mean nor imply that it's in imminent danger of failure at 101k. However, at 119k you indeed are approaching 20% beyond the recommended interval. It's an expensive job and the person doing it better know WTF they're doing. The timing belt is a dealer job and here I recommend letting them replace anything else that's encountered along the way during the teardown. (i.e., pay me once now or pay me again later). Just be careful about double-dipping the labor, example the timing belt labor requires them to tear down and reassemble everything nearby, so if you let them replace anything in the process, pay only for the additional parts, not any addt'l labor since removal & replacement is already built-in to the shop time for the T-belt....otherwise they **WILL** double-ding you for R&R labor on the related parts.
You can also do some of those tasks on your list yourself and save a bundle. Brakes aren't hard to do, but having the dealer do them is like walking into the dealership with your checkbook in your teeth. Air filter and A/C cabin filter (though detailed) is also something you can do yourself and the instructions can be found on Acurazine. The serpentine belt is also a DIY project.
No denying the dealers are hurting, but you shouldn't have to pay twice the price for scheduled services. That's the same for tires, We were quoted $1400 at the dealership, found the exact same (Michelin) tires at Discount Tire for $875 drive-out, tax included.

The timing belt on has 11k miles on it...

Stop Drop and Roll
That is some shady way to do business. FYI: Peoria Acura is also one of the bigger online sellers of acura parts https://www.oemacuraparts.com. Same dealer, different departments though.
