19k for an 08 Type S w/ 22,500 miles. This looks like a crazy deal, especially since I just paid 4k more for one a year older and with 26,000 more miles

The car itself looks legitimate. Paypal/eBay has a buyer protection so I say there's nothing too lose.

Car is from Indiana and ebay states Ocean City, NJ-No front license plate and I don't see a Jersey inspection sticker on the windshield.

Found this 2008 6 Spd, 29,000 miles $20900 while doing research:

It might be legit BlueAc, but it's risky. If you can have the Type S checked out by a mechanic, you could be in a better position to buy it.

What's the big deal? The auction hasn't met the reserve price, so the seller won't be selling it. If you seriously want to know the buyers asking price, e-mail him and ask what the reserve is set at. If they don't tell you, then count it as a scam (because they aren't serious about selling it)...

^^or just read what it says on the auction page.

says he'll take 19k$, but yes...something is probably up with it. either that or the guy selling it has no idea what he's doing.

Good find! The VINs match. Someone should call the number on the yahoo listing and ask about the e-bay auction

When you want to come see the car in person and the guy gives you the runaround and asks to arrange for an escrow service, it's a scam. I went through this with an NSX in St. Louis that was too good to be true. I told the guy I wanted to drive down to St. Louis to see it and suddenly he was in Europe on business. The stories kept getting more creative after that.

I emailed him and he told me this:

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply but i work on an oil rig and had a busy week.
I'm selling the car for $19,000 only because i have financial issues and need the money asap.
I purchased this car brand new and the title is clear (no lien). It is in great condition, no dents or scratches .It wasn't involved in any accident and has never suffered any kind of damage. Also this is a non-smoker car. If you have any questions just let me know!

Thanks

It's a scam. When I was searching for my car I ran accross several similar ones. You can spot them from a mile away.

Does this make sense?

Because I'm away from home I will not be able to deal in person. But I've
already arranged the shipping and the title transfer anywhere in the US. I
will pay the shipping fees.

I want the transaction to be handled by eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection.
They will keep the money until you receive and inspect the car. You will
have 4 days of inspection period. If the car is not like described you will
have to ship it back on my expense and they will give you a full refund.
This way, you will be able to inspect the vehicle before committing to buy
it and I know that you have the money and you aren't just fooling around.

Ack,

These stories are exactly what I went through several years ago when going after a too-good-to-be-true NSX.

What he is describing does make sense. There are some legitimate escrow services out there that will do exactly what he describes. Seller gives car to 3rd party escrow company. Buyer gives money to same 3rd party escrow company. Once the escrow company has both parties stuff, the escrow company delivers the car to the buyer for inspection. Buyer has a few days to look it over and if the buyer is unsatisfied, the escrow company returns the vehicle to the seller and the buyer gets his/her money back. There is a fee for this of course. Probably a few hundred bucks.

The scam I encountered was that the seller wanted me to use GE Financial Escrow service and sent me to their website. The website looked very official and wanted me to create an account and fund it from my bank account. Since I was suspicious, I told him I did not want to use GE Financial and suggested a different escrow company. He suddenly did not want to and said he only deals with GE Financial. In the meantime, I emailed GE Financial asking if this was a legitimate site of theirs... sure enough the site disappeared about a week later.

BTW, my scammer claimed to be on business in Europe... I said I could wait till he returned as I was not in a rush... He said he was going to be there for months... I asked if we could talk on the phone... He said he was deaf... There was an excuse for every suggestion which made me highly suspicious. Writing skills were very good and he seemed quite knowledgeable. I could see how people might get scammed. Especially people looking for hard-to-find exotics.
