TLS on fire

Hello all,
Thought everybody would be interested in seeing this video. I did not make the video, the sales reps at the Lexus dealership next door made it.

So I took my 2008 TL-S in for the power steering hose recall.

After the job was completed, and a few hours of driving, the power steering fluid leaked all over the catalytic converter, and combusted!

No body was hurt in the fire.

so what is the dealer/Acura saying? They performed the recall and it has the reverse effect.

All joking aside (and very sorry for your loss- I assume it's totaled based on the fire). What's the dealership responsibility since the work was obviously done wrong and resulted in the fire? Do they have to provide a replacement vehicle of similar worth? I always wondered how they are required to make you 'whole' again.

Dealer owes him a new car. Sorry for your loss. Guy videoing it is a idiot. You never open the hood on a car with that much fire without putting some of it out first. Once it gets more air it will go rapid and spread if the hood was opened.

How did the car end up back at the dealership after several hours of driving? Kinda weird that it started on fire at the dealership unless you drove it there while it was on fire lol

I was wondering how he ended up back at the Acura dealer in time for the fire. Maybe he noticed the fluid leaking or it started smoking and drove back to the dealer.

Nice the way the Lexus sales people making fun of his pain as the car goes up in flames.

I'm not sure why everyone is discrediting this guy for posting the video, in all reality it was most likely power steering fluid that caught on fire.

First post, - lots of one post wonders hit this site
should have been resolved- no mention of that
easy for some troll to say it was the PS hose, but could have been anything.
Just saying!

I have been on these forums for a while. It was normally for buying parts for the TLS.
I know this is my first pose...so what?

What happened was, I picked up the car it was fine. Until i started seeing smoke and smelling something burning. At first i thought it was just the area i was in. When I opened the hood, I saw the smoke coming from behind the engine, where the power steering hose is located. I called the dealer to tell them there is smoke coming out of my engine, and that it was perfectly fine before you guys worked on it, less than 24 hrs ago.
They advised me to drive it back to the dealership, as I was driving, the smoke got much heavier, and yes I too agree this is weird, but it caught fire the moment I pulled into the dealership parking lot.

Now at this point, every single person at the dealership's respond was..."power steering hose?"

I bought my car in April 2011, and it was perfectly fine until i got the recall done.

Now how does the video ben made a month ago, make you think it cant be the power steering hose? Was there something I missed in the outline? that the power steering hose only explodes this month??

I guess the big question is how have you fared on this mess? What is Acura doing for you on this?

Acura compensated with the value of the car.

It is more than I would have gotten if it was sold working.

Have you picked up another car yet?

If you end up getting another TL-S make sure the recall has been done a couple hundred miles ago so you know your good, haha all jk aside glad no one was hurt and that they did help you instead of saying it was your fault and not doing anything.

Sorry about the car and the troubles that you were obviously saddled with. Glad you got reasonable compensation from the dealer.

"Excuse me sir, I think you have to open the hood."

That's it. Tell the firefighter how to do his job. He's probably never done this before.

The dingus would probably dump water on an oil fire or open a door inside a burning building without checking to see if it's hot first.

Personally when i saw it smoking, i would have shut the car off and had it towed before something like this happened. At least no one was hurt.
