hey i know speeding is wrong and shit but since you wanted some personal experiance i have a 2005 tl no performance mods took it to 145 on the NJ turnpike i couldve deff taken it higher but decided to call it quits i think the fule cut off is around 152 or 155 and i know people are gonna flame me for going so fast and what not but im a kid and have a speed problem and i openly admit it just wish i could treat it until then letz keep ripping our cars

I own an 01CLS, used to own 5AT/04TL.... When I was 18, I had a 1997 MB C280/5AT that I put 18 inch low-pro tires w/chrome rims on. Yes, although I only took it to 130 (limiter), it was amazingly smooth at 100+mph. For power comparison, it had a 2.8L 6, rated 200/200. This car weighed 3500-4000 pounds. 0-60, my C could barely pull on my friends 03 Accord 5/MT 2.4 I4, rated 160/160! Highway and above it got better but not substantially, the Accord also weighs around 3500 pounds. Now, this may have been due to MT putting more power to wheels and my AT and weight. Anyways, that is the Benz story it was a 7-8 second 60mph car. In the TL, I got to 145 and it felt very smooth as well, although the dynamics are different compared to RWD Benz. I have heard limit was 152 but a curve was coming and didn't want to risk anything. The TL was very powerful up to about 110 (end of 3rd gear). Then, I believe the gear ratio is .97 for 4th gear and like .48 for 5th gear (wow). Even when I got up to 145, it was not SLOW, but slower than I expected from 110-145. I know that the 2001 E430 and 2000 S500 were smoother in power delivery than the TL, although I don't believe faster. TL 5AT 0-60 should be around 6.2-6-5 (lo-hi), S500 0-60 should be around the same, and so should E430 due to less weight but smaller engine.

I don't "race" the TL because there's no point. Racing a TL against an S-500 is a handicapped race, both cars are rediculously slow and boring. My friend has a CL500 and just got a Brabus T-12 CL600 that dynoed 640rwhp. I've run the CL500 for the heck of it and he puts about 3 cars on me through the 1/4 mile. The CL is smaller and lighter than the S so who knows what would win TL vs S-500. With the modded CL600 there's no point lol.
Don't get too comfortable with the S-500. I had one harass me when I was in the Buick on the freeway. Freeway was almost completely clear so I fell in behind the guy. He kept accelerating until we were close to 160mph and leveled off. It was taking about 1psi of boost to maintain this speed. I put on my blinker, brought it up to 23psi and went on around the guy like he was standing still and immediately backed off. Silly Mercedes picking on an old V6 Buick.
Don't get too comfortable with the S-500. I had one harass me when I was in the Buick on the freeway. Freeway was almost completely clear so I fell in behind the guy. He kept accelerating until we were close to 160mph and leveled off. It was taking about 1psi of boost to maintain this speed. Perception of a vehicle's quickness is relative. I think my 3G TL is a pretty quick car, but before this TL and my previous '03 TL-S, I was driving a 5MT 1990 Honda Accord with 180,000 miles on it. I thought THAT car was kinda quick when I had it ! If I had previously owned some grossly higher powered vehicle than the TL, it might not feel as quick as it does now.

Whats up man first off s500 weighs a shitload so i think i anwhere from 110 and on tl will take u,second of all i have a 3g tl and i got it up to 151 mph and i was only at 3800 rpm so i know i have more juice in it. but to ansewer ur question i dont think u can a take a tl with a driver that has some Balls.

I'll admit I've hit the 147 Max on my car and went up to 150 down hill.... but this was on I-16 going to Savannah... not a car insight for miles... (I'll never do it again)
Its like drivin through the COUNTRY literally...... but I was surprised how stable my CL-S felt w/ all the comptech stuff... I didnt think it would handle tht well at such a high speed...

i was driving my tl got 140 on it, i like to open it up like 1 time a month, but im not like everyother idiot that weives through traffic. its lik 3am when i do this. and i have hit 160with my brothers 350z nismo stune, and you know what? never again. i dont know how people do speeds like that everyday, its crazy.

Manufacturers limit the top speed of their vehicles by the speed rating on the tires as equipped from the factory. They WILL NOT let the car exceed that rating.
And for the guy with the TL that outruns Cobras...c'mon down with a fat wallet. I've owned an 01 that would run 13.20's stock except for 3.73 gears. If I would have bolted on slicks, it would have bumped the 12's. My 04 Cobra ran 12.90's bone stock...and runs 11.80's with nothing more than a pulley and tune. This was at just over 117 mph. My wife could drive it, stop and buy a pair of shoes, and still out run your TL. I have an 06 TL...and it's a very nice car...but it's not even in the same world as those cars. I would be willing to bet my son's Lincoln LS8 would outrun my TL. I really would.

If you had 3.73 gears, it wasn’t stock, any way you look at it. The gears completely change the amount of torque the car puts to the ground. Also starts to pull down your top speed. No doubt it was a quick car, but on road from a 60 kick, the TL would hang, maybe not beat it, but it would hang. As the problem with the TL's is the weight and this is only a real problem getting the car moving, once moving the TL's are quick.
A all motor 99 Cobra isn't anywhere in the same class as a 04. Super charged will eat the all motor Cobra all day. As for the LS, no way in hell. I would put my TL up against it any day. Oh wait I have, and stomped them.
The newer SVT's I would never think of messing with. They are very fast cars, but on the other hand, I would much rather drive my TL over the Cobra. The interior of the Cobra is still Domestic Crap!! They are uncomfortable with a nightmare of a clutch to drive. I know this as I drove a 04 this weekend that was dyno-tuned to 650hp. They are fast no doubt, but can not even be compared to a TL. Its a track car not a street car and to compare a V-8 Forced Induction car to a V-6 N/A is gay and dumb for a V-6 N/A guy to think they could beat one. I have future plans to build a V-8 racer, but have not yet decided on the platform. I have a 65 Mustang currently, but not a platform I wan to work with. Its a Sunday driver (that’s modded)!! I really can't wait to see the new Cobra's in action!! That car is going to be mean! Personally I still like the 93 Cobra, as that was one of the meanest all motor Cobra's and with some light modding, was a great track car.
BTW, I would like to see a pic of the Cobra CobraGuy!! Put it up if you get a chance. Have you looked into or have you done the half shafts yet? I have heard they like to break with drag radials and to much TQ.
As for the 99 Cobra, I can see him keeping up with it, as far as stomping it, maybe not. I like to play with V-8s, as they are more fun, but I also know which ones to stay away from.
As for playing with a MB, most of the MB drivers are so stuck up that they wouldn't think of toying around!! Sorry a MB is a status symbol, not every MB is fast. To the poster who put the pic up, that car is ugly, I don't care if it is a MB, it still ugly. There are a lot of other cars I would buy before I ever considered a MB. Believe me I have worked on a lot of MB's and have never cared for them. There are only a couple I like, and that would be there slk and clk.
Just my so take it at that.

My experience
I sold my Mercedes CLK55 ///AMG for the TL. This was not because of any problems with the CLK but rather a financial move as I essentially drove the CLK for 2 years for free. The ///AMG cars have SIGNIFICANTLY more torque. The standard model S500 is simply a basic v8 pushing a VERY heavy car down the road. The TL driver probably had no problem "hanging with you" and was probably not trying to "overtake" you but rather was letting you "run up front" so get your egfo out of the way. Although there is little point in running either an S500 or a TL in a racing fashion, I did use to run my CLK55 since it was a 4.9 second 0-60 car and the lijmiter was @ 155. With 349HP it easily outran all mustangs and most cobra's (there was a stage 3 rousch that was able to walk on me slowly). Point is that your an idiot for letting your emotions get to you on the road. Feel fortunate you didn't run into traffic moving at a significantly slower rate and kill not only yourself but others as well. (he says getting off of his soapbox...)

The TL is not a racecar and if i wanted something fast i woulda bought an STI or EVO.
You can't even compare the two cars at all, if you want to compare the S500 to something compare it to the BMW 745i, which shits all over the S500 in almost every aspect
My TL smokes a chevy aveo but who cares, these two cars are not in the same league, much like the TL and S500.
