TL vs Cadillac Deville

So my friend keeps on talking trash to me, saying that his moms Cadillac Deville, I believe it is a 2004, can beat my TL. He insists on racing for $100. I have an Automatic, and so is the cadillac. I told him we both drive autos, so it mainly relys on the specs of the cars, right? What you think?

Having just traded my Caddy Deville in for my 05 TL....I would start my telling your buddy that his mom was a dumb ass for even buying into that cadillac product line! Not much inspiration there! And dont even talk about quality issues...Jeez - I think the Cadillac is the Mother of All Quality Issue Complaints! People buy caddies because they are either old or want to prove something/make some type of statement....and are usually "legends in their own minds". Like I said....I had one...I know! Hey...we all grow up eventually and figure out that we are all here together! Cadillac owners usually think they own the world.....so it does not suprize me that his moms attitude would flow right down to kid! Tell him to grow up and stop talking about what his moms car will do and work on one himself.....or will mom be providing him with a caddy too? (typical)

Dude, he wants to race his friend's deville. Will he win or lose? Thats the question, he's not asking anything like "Should I buy this deville?" or anything like that.

It would be close; the caddy has 290 hp and like 285 ft/lbs of torque but it also weighs like 4k lbs.

The TL lacks major torque so it would definately be close, you should race him, just not for money; it would be pretty interesting.

you'll beat his ass down, 290hp i actually think it's 300hp but that car weighs a lot more than 4k try closer to 5500lbs, they aren't that fast.

If it was 4000lbs, it would be close to the same speed as the 05 RL. But it's heavier, I'm sure of that.

Which one would it be? Did they make a deville in 2004? or does the 1998 stats carry over to the latest modle? I know little about caddies... for a reason.. they are old man's cars IMO

2002 cadillac deville DTS 0-60 in 7.3, a stock 00 tl-p is 0-60 in 6.7, pretty good difference there. stock 04 tl is 0-60 in 6.3. easy win either way. toast his ass!

I saw TL-s racing deville about a year ago. TL-s seems to start about same but beat Deville as drove down the road.

I had a full throttle experience with a caddy about 40MPH, Caddy wasn't anywhere close to mine. Maybe because Devile's gear isnt' aggresively programmed or it's simply TL's high RPM advantage.

I'll put my money on the TL. Gearing is better in the Auto TL as well.

MSN.com has the 2004 Cadillac DeVille at: Curb Weight - Automatic (lb.) 4047
and ya, the '04 has 300 hp.

4047lbs, you sure those fuckers are heavy, they sure aren't geared to be that fast. 7.3 0-60 for 300hp 4k lb car is kind of slow should be around 6.7-6.8.

Yeah that is kind of slow. Let's take, again, the RL as an example.

The 2004 Deville is a 4.6L V8 and it comes in two engine configs:

1. 275hp@5600rpm & 300lb-ft@4000rpm
2. 300hp@6000rpm & 295lb-ft@4400rpm

(pretty shitty numbers for such a huge V8...)

and the 2005 RL is a 3.5L V6 with 300hp@6200rpm & 260lb-ft@5000rpm.

According to Car and Driver (may not be the greatest source, but they are pretty consistent), the RL runs the 0-60mph in about 6.4 seconds. It's also 4000lbs.
One of the differences is that the RL has a 5spd auto and the Deville is only 4spd. But could that really account for nearly a full second difference, especially since the RL makes much less torque? Does the RL have a lighter flywheel and rev faster or something? Or maybe the gearing on the Cadillac is just sooo bad that when it shifts gears, it jumps way out of the powerband. Or more likely it might be the AWD launching advantage of the RL.

so it turns out, it isnt a deville, he got it wrong, and it isnt even that new. its like a 97/98 catera, or whatever, I dont know anything about caddies, just that i thought they were old man's cars. He is still talking smack everytime I talk to him, so we'll see I might race him this weekend just so its done with. I just dont need a ticket, cause I just got a warning yesterday.

Sure.....I certainly wouldnt hesitate! Take the boys money and shut him up....after you take his cash....tell him he should know his role better than that! We wont even get into the fact that we were talking about mommys car anyway, right>?

I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST A RACE ON THE NEW SPEED CHANNEL'S "PINKS!" SHOW! That would be just all out cool as hell! To stockers racing for it all....and you could load that caddy right up on your trailer and take it home afterwards! I am sure a loud mouthed person like this would also have NO problem racing side by side on all races too....no matter how suprized he was by how far he lost after race #1 - then it would be all just him crying like a baby for two more races until you loaded the car and they cranked up the "walk away" song!

That show is cool as hell! Anyway...race him and get it over with already. I couldnt believe when I checked back that you STILL have not gotten this over with! Do you need me to drive your car for you>? (willing!)lol

Dude shouldnt be talking smack if he isnt willing to back it up......

Take his money - double the bet - and dont race him till you see the money! (like on that Joe Pesci movie) he may be showing you a roll of ones!

Ive rented Devilles several times and raced one once. Guy took off without me being ready and jumped about 2 cars on me. I didnt even sport shift, just floored it. Caught him and passed him quite easily. But my TL-S isnt stock either, and it runs better than most...probably about 14.4 or so in the quarter. Ive dusted 3.5 max's and altima's with it and stay right next to the 350Z until about 95-100 where he started to inch me when I ran out of 3rd gear.

I beat a Catera with my 00 Taurus, and that only had 200hp. The Catera's run low 16's, they only have 200hp. So, even a TLP should be able to take one from any speed.

I really don't think under any circumstances Deville would win. Nor the new DTS they are making.

yeah, gearing has a lot to do with it. Since the caddy is a luxury car and ours has the sport side to it, i didn't think he would have a problem with it.
