This makes me second guess my thoughts on selling the TL for an S2000, although the S2k wouldn't stay stock for long..

well, the s2k was never intended to go fast in a straight line. Go touge one or against one, if you can. Plus, I would opine that it has one of the best shifters, and the steering is as precise as an Evo. When I switch between my s2k and my TL, I always feel the TL's steering is unresponsive.
