TL stock security
I looks like some one was trying to pic my lock on my 2008 TL.
They did not get in, but it raises the question(s)
How secure is the door lock?
How good is the stock security system?
Does it make sense to install an aftermarket alarm like Viper,
Hornet?
I am going to put in a lojack sysem

The TL factory alarm does the job against deterring would-be thieves. The alarm (horn) will sound and the lights will flash if the doors are opened, if the unlock button is pressed or the knob is lifted.
Buying an aftermarket alarm will basically accomplish the same thing. It's a "Theft Deterrent". Immobilizers, ignition kills and shock sensors are all great at chasing away the dumb thief, but if someone wants your car, and they know what they're doing, they are going to get it no matter what you do.
LoJack or MobileGuardian is probably the best bet because if they steal it, you have a great chance of getting it back FAST.
If you get MobileGuardian, you should know that it sends and receives signals using cellphone towers and NOT GPS. Early versions used analog cellular signals, and newer systems are using digital systems. The FCC announced in February this year that cellular companies no longer have to support analog systems, and many of them have shut down analog services. If your MobileGuardian is analog, it WILL NOT WORK.

I laughed very hard when I read the title... Alarm? Where?
Get inside your car, lock the doors, wait for the "alarm" to activate, then pull the lock lever up by your window.. It works! Yep, thieves have do to the same thing, lol! But in reality, they will have to break the window first.
P.S. I had my Maxima stolen, had my 00 TL stripped...with a $1200 custom Clifford 3.5 Matrix alarm with sensors and back-up battery/horn...all connected to a dual truck horn... In other words, save your money...if they really want it, they will take it. Just invest into a full coverage insurance, and don't leave what you don't want stolen in your car.

Here is a story... LoJack is ONLY seen by cops when they are in a very close proximity of the car. My friend's car was towed to some yard by a body shop, his lojack went off... 3 months later cops driving by got the "alert"...
So far the best thing is to have gps tracking or onstar, so you can take matter in to your own hands.

The alarm also goes off if you start the car without turning off the alarm.
Ha imagine a Tl driving down the road with the horn going off and the lights flashing...
Also, it will go off if you press the trunk button before diabling the alarm.
I like testing my alarm = )

LoJack is another joke... Most know how to disable it...it's not hard at all.

Lo*Jack worth the price? Maybe not
Unless you bought the $300 Early Warning option, your LoJack system only works when the trigger is pulled (by the police) to activate its transmitter beacon. This doesn't happen by itself. You first have to report the car as having been stolen. Then and only then is the transmitter beacon activated so the cops can start to look for your car. Thus the success of this method logically assumes that you immediately (or very soon) know that the car has been taken & alert the authorities. Otherwise the thieves have as much time to strip the car as you allow them.
Once stolen and stripped, or stolen and wrecked, do you really want it back? Perhaps if it was old and a collector's item, or poorly insured, but if fairly new you're should get a pretty decent settlement check from the insurance company.

Another thing to consider....
Though the Lo*Jack folks claim the beacon transmitter is strong enough to penetrate buildings, etc., the "activation" process occurs via satellite. If the bad guy can get your baby tucked away inside a metal building or inside a metal trailer (18-wheeler) before the beacon is activated, your baby is gone.
