The father (Judd Hirsch) has a Silver one; it was in an earlier episode. Last night's episode was cool with the TL. BUT… this is where broadcast TV is heading. That was a BLATANT ad for the TL. Since people are skipping the commercials with their DVRs, advertisers are going to start putting more emphasis on "in programming" advertising.

The way she used the Navi, and then the voice command to put in the address numbers, was just a commercial. We like it because it's the TL, but as this trend continues, we're not going to think it's cool to much longer. TV shows are going to have more and more of these ads in them, mucking up the programming. Imagine Jack Bauer stopping for 10-15 seconds to setup the stopwatch on his Seiko Kinetic watch. Or Gil Grissom, getting upset, and chastising a member of his staff for using RAID’s new “Earth Options, Ant & Roach killer” to take care of the insect problem around their cubicle.

I agree with Rock Dog....

This was a blatent (sp) advertising.... if you remember, the car was the first shot, showing the lines etc... then they moved away so you could see the people... and then she put something in the trunk (I believe).... finally used the Nav with a CLOSE UP of the nav and voice recognition....

Normally they would have just gone outside and jumped in a Crown Vic....

BTW, how many people here thing that ANY police group buys TLs for thier officers???? Kind of like the HUMMER on CSI Miami... not going to happen..

Interesting thread. I was thinking of applying at the FBI if your government car is a TL. No Hummers at CSI! Probably no Ferrari Daytona Spyders at Miami Vice? Of course, that was Sonny's undercover car.

I wonder how much Acura pays for a product-placement ad like the one on NUMB3RS. I replayed the scene. Except for a quick pan of the left rear wheel where you can see the Acura logo and later when you can see a very small stylized Acura logo on the navigation screen map, I don't think most viewers would recognize the manufacturer or model. It's really rather subliminal. Maybe, the ad is designed to foster customer loyalty so we later purchase a 4G TL.

Regards.

Sounds about like the Cayanne commercial in the Sopranos episode.....was a pretty blatant plug and mini commercial right within the show.

I tivoed the epp and will watch it later. But i have been noticed the new cars in some shows. In 24, I noticed that they always use ford but early this season Jack Bauer drove a new Lexus GS. It was out of place and I saw it as an add.

Where it is heading?

When Ford changed the grille on their Grand Torino, Starsky suddenly had a new car.

Try finding any character, good guy or bad, driving anything but a Ford in any episode of Hawaii Five-0. In the end credits it would say something like "Cars provided by the Ford Motor Company"

In last night's episode of Numb3rs. It says, "Sponsored in Part by Acura" in the credits, one screen before the copyright notice.

This has been going on since the beginning of television.

I agree with you about the history... that shows had only Fords, or GMs or Chryslers... but they USUALLY did not be as blatent as Numb3ers... almost all shows have cars or trucks etc... but they are in the background (that is except the shows where the car was a character like Kit, or the General or Starky and Hutch's car)... and most made SOME sense... Fords were police cars (still are)... Acura's are NOT...

I agree that it was not 'real' to only see a bunch of Fords on the street when they were driving or stopping somewhere... but as I said, they were background... or at least MORE background..

Auto companies have always supplied vehicles to shows. Yeah, 5-0 had nothing but LTDs etc... But there is a big difference, they weren't "placed" in the scene for a specific reason. You can go back to the beginning of T.V., especially the "cop show" genre and find cars, but the TL in Friday's Numb3rs epi, was there for one reason only. The show creators only have so much time as it is, about 43 minutes/hour to tell their story. That five-8 seconds of TL is critical, unless their gettin' paid...

I bet 3/4 of the people on this board are still wondering who is Starsky and what is a Hawaii Five-O?

Thanks for uploading it. Was she using the NAVI correctly? If she already punched in the address why did she say it again, the number and have confirmation of it?
