TL-S to RL A-spec

Hey guys, thinking about trading my 07 NBP TL Type S for an 06 NBP RL Aspec. Both have similar mileage and are in great shape. Any thoughts? I love the TL but really enjoy the comfort of the RL. I like the smoother shifting and I'm drawn to the SH-AWD. The look of the RL is beautiful too as is the TL. I'm a little torn right now. I'm Canada, RL Aspec's are rare. Especially black ones, so I'm debating on whether to pull the trigger.

Obviously the person that has the RL believes that the TLS is more desirable and you vice versa.
Bottom line, do what you feel is best as they are both @ equal value.

-Looks
-6MT
-Looks
-Newer
-Looks

Ya but what's your take on the looks

As of now I am leaning towards the RL. The car is a US car and I'm wondering if I can swap gauge clusters so that my speedometer reads in kph. Is it as simple as that?

I do like that the tpms reads in psi vs kpa in American cars. Not that it's a factor in any of this. Just an aside.

its not that simple as you think, keep in mind the RL will have lower MPG than your TL. I like the RL but in TX it seem its impossible to find one that in good condition for decent price.

Two different class of cars, if you feel you need to upgrade to a more luxurious ride then go for it.

As for myself, I'd take the TL over it. It's more than comfy enough for me as a DD and a roadtrip car, better steering feel, more than adequate power, and most of all the looks. The RL is a good looking car, but the TL is a great looking car.

Do what you feel makes you happy.

You're buying the car , not us. you'll be the one driving it, not us;

thus you should be making the decision, not us.

ive had both, RL hands down for me. TL-S isnt sporty enough for sacrifice the refinement of the RL.

sounds like you have your mind set. As long as the conditions of both cars are approx equal, I dont think you can go wrong either way. enjoy the RL

If the RL was a Canadian car, I'd say go for it. Having to deal with imperial units in a metric country is annoying. It's harder to sell also for the same reason, unless you drop your price.

I'm guessing the car displays both km/h and m/h, but the secondary units are generally annoyingly tiny. I wouldn't do it.

On the TL (04-06) and RL the second unit are not only tiny, they're also very dim. RL being slightly better but still meh. I'm not sure if the RL got a gauge upgrade like UA7 though.
To swap the cluster I believe you need to reprogram it for the mileage to be correct.

Is it reprogramming or is it a different speed sensor all together? I've never done something like this on a modern car.

I swapped gauges back in the day on my '92 Si (CDM to JDM, so still in km/h) and that was all analog, so it would have had to have been a speed sensor swap, I'd imagine.

Either way, gauge clusters are NOT cheap. Additionally, newer cars have their engines tied to the clusters electronically and it takes some work to swap them over. For example, I believe, to use a K20 engine from the later RSX, you needed the matching cluster, or else it wouldn't work. Not sure if it's the same going the reverse way.

Clearly there's much I don't know, but likely all this stuff is relevant information that would have to be checked out first.

I've considered switching to the RL SH-AWD too(newer though) strictly for the AWD, but now I'm strongly wanting/drooling over the GS350 Fsport AWD. The new body comes out next year, so this 4th gen GS will drop in price a lot I'm sure...I'm just waiting for that to happen

Two different cars. The Type S is a sportier ride. The RL is a smoother car. Go with your heart.....

RL is a much slower car but in the curves the RL can corner as well as an NSX.

The TL will give you 17/30 whereas the RL will give you 16/26 MPG while driving. That 4MPG wasn't worth it to me, but the RL has a track record of lasting a long time. The trans and AWD system are rock solid.

The TL tends to need some transmission repairs every 100K miles. Both cars require a timing belt change at 105K which can be $600-1k.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm on a work trip but if the car is still available when I'm back I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the RL Aspec. Will post pics if this happens
