TL-S comparisons
I got an email from the local dealership with this flyer attached. I find the marketing efforts humoring and offered some false impressions of the TL/s. Is the TL/s really the best in its class? How come this flyer uses the TL-S as the bench mark as opposed to a base TL? From an aesthetics and practical disposition, I will still give the TL/s the nod over the others. I fell in love with this car because of how it appealed to me visually and it hasn't stop. However if we are to gauge performance and handling, can the TL/S still hold its own? Sure it has more horses than the ES or the 330i, but is it still just as comparable in handling? I know the TL will run much more past its prime than the 330i, but can it equal or surpass the longevity of an ES from Lexus? And why isn't the new G35 mentioned in the comparisons?

The pic of that TL in the advertisement isn't even a TL-S. I agree w/ the OP- the ad is somewhat humorous, and imho- it's a little misleading.

I fond it add that they are going after the Lexus ES350, is that really their direct competition? Worlds different cars in terms of driving expierience. Surprised no G35, or do they think they can't compete with that?

This is a prime example of how you can manipulate statistics to say whatever you want. It looks like they hired the some producers from radical right wing and left wing radio talk shows to make their flyers!

The TL is much closer to a 5 series in terms of dimensions and weight.
The 528 is underpowered (230 HP) and overpriced, while the 535i is just overpriced (starts around $50K).
Option out a 535i as closely as possible to a TL-S and you're looking at ~ $55K, which is more or less non-negotiable. The real world, "out the door" price delta could easily be $20K - especially in states with high sales tax (like mine).
The 3 series is a small car compared to a TL (or an Accord). It's closer to a Civic in terms of interior volume.

I think it's a relatively fair comparison. Remember the TL comes pretty loaded. So the TL-S is supposed to be the most optioned out TL. Compared to the ES and 330 even with the same options they're 5-10K more and do not provide that much more in terms of driving performance.

The TL-S is FWD and sporty/fun. The ES is a FWD BORING Camry. FORGET the 330i.
The 335i RWD with every option EXCEPT greentooth and nav is about $44k MSRP.
And will blow away the other cars. Its a TRUE sports car. 335i Coupe, sport pkg. w/18"
wheels, leather, 6 speed manual is FAST. As for FWD the TL-S is the best/fun car.
If you need more room, get the TL-S. If you want a SMOOTH, QUIET, BORING car get the
ES 350. If you don't need a bigger back seat and want to really drive the car, NOT talking
the phone, get a 335i coupe sport pkg 6 speed manual. Just my .02
