TL High Speed Stability
took my TL out for a few high speed runs on open hwy. last night.
i notice that between 90-110 the car feels a bit "unstable", "light on it's feet", "awkwardly nimble", then around 120-125 it feels more solid, more "wheel in the road". i'm sure there are other words used for what i feel, but there is a definite difference in the feel of the car at the speeds i mentioned.
anyone else have some input on this ??

Ive had the 04 to 145 mph. It feels well planted like TLs generally do, but when there was a slight bend in the road, I realized what car and driver was talking about with a "pogo-ing chassis at high speed." The chassis felt like it had a little sway back and forth like a pogo. Nothing too serious, but just a slight sway.
In the end, the TL is a luxury high speed cruiser, not a full fledged sports car. You have to be careful and alert at high speed, but that goes for just about any car.
Just like my 02 TL-S, the 04 TL feels safe to me till the end of 3rd gear at 110 mph. Once you start getting near 120 mph+, i start loosing security.
Anyway, be safe and happy

I was not the driver of my tl at the time, but it has once been up to 130 and once to 150. I can only imagine that the "lightness" at 100 changed to "more planted" at 130-150 due to downforce and aerodynamics of the air layer lifting up off the car, should have sounded a little quieter too in re: to wind noise, not engine and/or road. I thought the car felt amazing at those speeds.

as speed increases, downforce does not increase. the drag lift or whatever its called is about 0.28 or 0.29... and since this is a positive number, the downforce decreases at a constant rate as speed increases. So downforce at 150 is not as strong as downforce at 100. Just wanted to clear that up
The only time I've felt that the cars feels unstable is taking it a little further when sliding around a corner, as well as going over small bumps on a 45 mph road at 130.
As far as control at low speeds goes, with rotated tires (back tires need to be worn) you can swing the back end of the car out if its raining. But dont do it unless youve practiced sliding in a parking lot first. I did a 270 around a turn on monday when it was raining... oops
