Is a TL for a 19 year old?

dude chill out

If the kid has the money or the car is being bought for him I dont give a shit.
What pisses me off is when its not appreciated. So if you get a TL just appreciate the fact that you have a car some of us worked a long time to get. Thats all I have to say...
plus the OP is asking if they'll even like it, I think you'll love it

Sorry for another post...but I failed read your other two options....The S2000 and RSX are both good cars but they are, imho, teeny bopper cars...You're obviously growing up..time for a grown up car dude! Go TL! As most people have already stated, you wont regret it. And RBP..thats a nice color. Another added benefit is that the RSX and HOnda S2000 are coupes and have less safety features when compared to the TL, so insurance may be higher on those two cars compared to the TL And the TL is more functional ....Anyways, Go with the TL !

Damn, I felt bad just looking at your Audi
I don't know what's the big deal w/ young kids driving hot cars. I always see highschool kids around here that drive more $$ cars then most of us. If you fam has money, they can do what they want w/ it.
OP, I might go with the S2000 because I think you'll have more fun with that car, but definately a no go if you get snow in the winter. TL is a sensible car, that's also got good looks inside and out. I guess having back seats help, but I hate giving ppl rides, although the rides sunny201's speaking of is ok by me.
Anyways, good luck with your decision.
just go for it if you think you can handle the payments... this is a nice car..
my first car was a 1989 Ford Taurus.. thing was crap, hated fords ever since
then my parents bought a IS300 for me and then ended totaling that up..(16@the time)
and then i went back to the taurus, then it broke down after a year or so of driving it and now, the 06TL.. I don't make the payments and all but I am glad my parents bought it for me.. i, too was going to get the 06 RSX-s, but my dad said it was too much of a sports car and attention getter so he decided to get the TL for me... this is one hell of a car so yea, get it!

As long as the 19 year old can generate enough income to comfortably afford a car at such price I don't see the problem. It's better off to go with TL than a sportscar to help save on the insurance. So yeah, TL is a good choice.

I think that's what's at the root of all this animosity: I for one am skeptical he could appreciate it. Where does he go from there? A Ferrari? I started with my 1984 Honda Prelude, no air conditioning. Up to my 96 Isuzu Rodeo. Then my 2004 TL...... yeah. I appreciate my new ride. I actually appreciated them all.
But heck you know what? At least it's a safe car, guys. Just don't get yourself killed out there, kid. And do try to appreciate what you have in life.

I drove a used Fiat x1/9 when I was in college. Never had a new car until I graduated from law school. Right now, I can buy any exotic car (up to $100000) if I wanted to. Would I do it? Nope! My money is stashed away in CDs and retirement.
What's my point? You don't need a fancy car at 19. Think about your future. A car will always wear out and off. But a good education/career will allow you to enjoy many more nice cars in the future.
I fell in love with TL's when a friends older borther had a dark blue 2nd gen when i was about 16...at such a age i was no where even close to getting one, so the 93 teggy was just right. As i got older i never lost my love for the car, spent a year in iraq (was 19) saved up about $14,000 took out a 10k personal loan, and cut a private seller check for my 04 TL. There is nothing wrong with a 19 year old wanting this car, just be mature enough to take care of it and yourself.
I just got a TL in October. It's really sweet and I've seen ton of my friends and random people checking it out. Also its a blast to drive and a great all around car. There are 3 other people I know around my age with TL's also... (04,06,06). Great all around cars. I drove my dad's older yukon denali for a year... no accidents, scrapes, or tickets later and i've got the TL.
Get it!
And the whole thing about it being an old folks car.. NOT true. I'm 16 and i LOVE it, I mean honestly, how much faster do you need the car to be?!
Plus it looks better than the G35c's and has more tech goodies. Hope it has navi!

Oh but I only say get it if you'll be responsible about it.
Service for this car and gas kills... and also just the general up-keep of the car.
I think most 'older' people are saying no because young people tend to abuse expensive car and therefore dont deserve it. My view on it is that I was blessed to get a car like this and that I should do whatever I can to make sure that I keep it in top condition and that I don't abuse it i.e. racing, trashing it, careless driving etc... In my opinion if you can be responsible about having a car then you most definately deserve it.
Especially if you're paying for it!

i think a TL would be a great car for you...if you have the money. its true that gas can be expensive. the s2k and rsx may have high insurance rate, check before you buy those. plus 4 doors will allow you to take all your friends and girls around with ease. its kind of a hassel to drive a two door and i own a cl so the s2k and rsx will be even smaller. the TL will give you a good amount of sport but obviously not compared to rsx and s2k. plus i think the TL is a safer car since its bigger. you can grow and live with the TL for many years to come. a coupe will only last until you have a family.
No offense to anyone and nobody complain to me about what im saying, but IMO I think you should live your life to the fullest when your young and do what you want. I dont mean going around and acting stupid, I mean buying the car you want, and partying all you want. When you grow up, at least the way I think of it, your gonna get married and everything you do from there on is for your kids. Before you think about buying a new car, your gonna need to buy things for your kids and other things of the sort, or things for the house. I could have easily save the $32,000 that I spent on this TL, but I wanna live my life while I can.

What is all the animosity about? The kid asks a legitimate question, but without giving us much details about his financial condition. We cannot give him good advice unless and until he tells us more about himself.

. So technically I bought it myself and pay for it myself. And those who say "Mommy and Daddy" did everything for me, damn right they did. Thats why I tell my MOMMY and DADDY I love them
P.S. 2009 M5 is my next car

haha yeahh... I dont know thats jus something that really irritates me cause of course it goes on a lot in my HS especially when people talk about my car and just frustrates me, so in a way it's kind of a pet peeve to me when people hate on the 'fortunate' kids. It also REALLY irritates me when people call someone spoiled...
anyway we're really off subject... so uhmm... I think you should get the TL! haha

I hope everyone sees that this is NOT about teen bashing or spoiled brats. If the kid does well in school, which is his prime responsibility at that age, and he is mature and responsible enough to handle a nice car like the TL, and either his family can afford to buy him a car or he independently has saved enough to buy himself a car, I don't see why he shouldn't get one. We need to look at things from all perspective before we rush to judgment.
I've made more than my fair share of poor financial choices. I'm young, like nice cars, have a good income, and good credit. I've had six cars since the age of 16 (four were my own purchases, two my father put the down payment on and I paid the monthly), I'm 23 now.
The last four cars I've owned I went solo on, no help from mom and dad with payments, insurance, gas, etc. You live and learn. Check this out man, if you can do it, do it. A TL didn't even come close to sparking my interest four to five years ago; I had a '96 GS-R and a '02 Tahoe on 22"s at the time. Looking back, the poorest choice I've made was not to SAVE any of the cash I've squandered away on cars, just a tiny bit atleast. I always wanted the lastest and greatest. There is nothing wrong with it, but I should have put away money as well.
Now, I allocate over 20% of my income per month for retirement, and save $500+ per month towards a house. I plan on keeping this car for a long time (an IS-F or E92 M3 look appealing and affordable, but I have bigger plans now). Take it from someone who has been there who's had some help from the rents and has also went at it alone.
Get the car if you are able to have a social life, pay for gas, insurance, maintenance. By all means use it in good health. Just put away something for a rainy day and your future.

But anyway, this thread has really gotten out of hand. For starters, when I first read the original message, I thought the OP was just messing around and starting a thread just to get the AZ congregation all riled up. I still have my doubts as to whether the original post is even a serious one.
Assuming this guy is serious, then the question is inherently ridiculous regardless of its seriousness. "Is a TL for a 19 year old?" It's been said before in this thread, but any car is for anyone; if you like it, then you like it.
If you're truly looking to "get chicks" (although your original post did not claim that's what the car would be used for, but people have inferred that) and you think a car is going to do that, then by all means, do what you're gonna do. Any chick you "score" because you have a sweet car, regardless of which one you choose, is probably not going to be one that sticks around for any length of time...then again maybe that's what you want right? Quantity over quality? My fingers are crossed in hopes that you will see the light.
Aside from chicks and such, there is the monetary issue that has been touched upon by so many people already. If you can afford the price of the car, the gas it's going to consume (which is a lot, especially at $3.60+ per gallon), the insurance, the maintenance, etc., then the TL is simply a sweet ride that is hard to beat, especially in the neighborhood of $24k. S2000s are pretty cool, but far less practical, although definitely way sportier. Does a 19 year-old need a sports car? Insurance rates say no, but again it comes down to what you can afford. TLs with navigation have lower rates, at least for some insurance companies.
I wouldn't even consider an RSX, as the S2000 and TL are both way sweeter cars, but that's just my preference.
I could go on and on about this thread, but I think I'm done preaching for now, as my boys (Golden State Warriors) need a little second-round-of-the-playoffs support.
Good luck with your decision; make it a good one! (just don't get a Scion; promise me that)

Read between the lines. He works at Mazda and the dealer took the car in on a trade and is willing to sell it back to him for 23-24k. He obviously not an owner's son. If I had to guess, he's probably not a lot porter and is not old enought to be a mechanic or service technician. That leaves a few other jobs left at the dealer for you to take a wild guess.
OP, if you are a salesperson there, quit it and go get yourself a career.
