Timing Belt and Water Pump

Timing Belt and Water Pump
Hi all,
I live in Birmingham, AL and have a 2005 Acura TL with 105k on it. It's time for the timing belt and water pump to be replaced. Online general research is showing me numbers significantly less than $1,000. However, when I call both my local Acura and Honda dealers, I'm getting quotes of over $1,000 (sometimes significantly higher) for parts and labor on the maintenance work.
Can someone help let me know what would be expected to pay for this, so I can better negotiate or try and find another source to make the repair?
In other news, I also have a starter that's supposedly gone bad, so I'd love to hear estimates on that and if it likely makes sense to do all of this together at the same time to help save on labor.

From the dealer, it was going to be just shy of $1,100 for my '00 TL.
I bought the parts (RockAuto) & did it myself with some help & a friend with a shop. Did full TB package, plus front & rear brakes & a motor mount for about $700.

Here is a excellent thread on how to chnage your timing belt and water pump yourself

Get the Aisin TB/WP kit for less than $200 on RockAuto and then take the kit to a trusted indy mechanic if you can't do it yourself.

A dealer job on this item will cost about 1500 and up from when i was researching. i bought the parts myself and took them to an independent and i think they charged me about 600 (parts were an extra 200) and that was a deal. a few other independent places were charging me about 800 labor

My 2008 NBP Type S (my 2nd 3G TL; 1st was a 2004 ABP TL) has 83k miles on it, but Acura supposedly recommends replacing the timing belt every 7 years or 105k miles, whichever comes first. While getting the APP sensor replaced at the stealership, they scared me by showing me jacked up timing belts and a bent exhaust valve rod that occurred at 93k miles and 98k miles. I initially told them I'd roll the dice, but later got a monthly special coupon e-mail knocking the timing belt replacement price down from $1250 to $999.95, which includes the following:
-Replace timing belt.
-Replace Water Pump
-Drain and flush coolant
-Replace accessory drive belt
-Replace timing belt tensioner
They didn't ask for permission ahead of time. so I bitched about the extra ~$200 for the engine side mount replacement when I picked up the car, so I got that for free. The previous monthly special coupons I got from them had a timing belt special for $749.95 which is just for the timing belt only.

Honda dealer 1.5hrs away from me has a TB promo going for $539 including waterpump, TB, drive belt, coolant and labor plus $90 for auto tensioner. I replaced a couple extra parts too and they didnt charge me extra I supplied the parts.
Just had RL and TL done there vs acura dealer who quoted me over $2000 for same work.

Find a local guy on this forum that can do it for you or you learn to do it yourself.
I studied the guide posted by Majofo + the service manual and did this on my own on my 07 Accord V6 end of last summer. I took an extra day off work over the labor day weekend just to ensure that I had ample time to tackle it. All went well of course

also make sure when doing this job to also check the oil pump they tend to leak.. I missed this when i did my 105K service and now paying for it. This job should be done with the water pump and timing belt makes it easier on the mechanic.
Get the aisin kit from amazon local guy should be able to do with if he has the experience. My local mechanic charged me $350

My service was done by my local Honda dealer for about $1200 for TB, Serp Belt, water pump, tensioner, spark plugs, coolant, oil change, and valve adj. My local Acura dealer was $2400. Two local independent shops were $1100 using non-OE parts. So for me, the Honda dealer was the best option as well as closest to my house.
