Time to "break up" with my Acura tech??
Need to bring my TL in for it's B maintenance, need some opinions. I've always brought my car to the dealer with the exception of tires and an inspection. I'm trying to decide if I want to keep up with the dealer or go to this mechanic I know also does a good job.
My issue with the dealer is the last time i brought my car in I asked them for an alignment, it took them 3 tries to get it right and the last time they kept the car for 3 days. I was so upset that they even gave me the car back in the condition it was in. They didn't even make note the shimmy in the wheel when driving (dented rim, thanks NYC.) Anyway I'm hesitant to bring it back but don't want to give up the 6 years of history with them.
C'mon Acura people, help me decide.

What I suggest you do is go for somewhat "dirty" things like changing the oil or various fluids and major stuff such as the timing belt. However, for other much simpler things, try them yourself!
If you know how to operate a screwdriver you can easily replace the engine and cabin filters within a few minutes. As far as tires, discount tire and tire-rack are the places to go! And for alignments, Firestone offers a lifetime alignments program for the cost of 2x regular alignments!

Many of the maintenance things you can do DIY. For the major things, if you want to keep the history going, take it in. But, if you want to save some money, then use your mechanic friend. BTW welcome to AZ

I learned a long time ago that Service Advisers and Acura Techs are just salesmen that can turn a wrench and wear dirtier clothes. Simple as that.
DIY as much as possible and in no time you'll look at your Acura service history as a dark/painful/regretable period in your life. lol

To the OP, just 3 days? Im still without my car so far it has been 3 weeks and still going. Been bouncing calls with Acura Corporate and it is some what annoying. Makes you not want to buy an Acura anymore, not because of the car but because of the HONDA treatment I'm getting instead of an ACURA treatment.
I'm currently learning this the hard way...

Once upon a time I trusted Acura Techs. That was when I was younger and stupider. I will never have any work done at the dealer unless its warranty work or something like the 389.00 105k service. I got my Axles done on my 04 TL at a private mechanic for 400.00 parts and labor. The dealer wanted 1100 to do the same job. Crooks.

Yeah screw the dealership. Either find a mechanic that knows Acura's or Honda's OR another good approach is to go to a person that knows the part that you need replacing. For instance, if your starter is busted, take it to a good starter place. If your alignment is busted, take it to a good alignment place.

I have yet to have a good experience with a dealer. I guess none of the techs have the same "eye" that I have. That's unfortunate. What is fortunate is connections. +1 for the mechanic.
