Third party extended warranty question

So I have mercury coverage for my extended warranty plan. It seems as though I have bad motor mounts and want to get it fixed. While I'm at it I want to have the tranny replaced. Reason being is because I'm almost positive I saw the "D" blink as it was switching gears (5AT). Saw a thread about blinking D = tranny failing, so I reverted back to that thread and read it discovering it was only going to get worse.

My question is, have any of you been in or a similar situation with a third party extended warranty and what was the outcome? I'd rather pay the deductible vs the di-ag if they aren't going to cover it. I spoke with them again double checking to see if it was possible that a tranny replacement could be done and the guy said he's done 7 today. LMK your thoughts please! Thanks AZ

I have the mercury coverage as well but i'm not sure how a tranny replacement will go. When my door lock actuator went out I brought it to the dealer and basically up front I signed papers authorizing the dealer to diagnose the problem and determine if it was caused by me or just a defective/worn out part. If they come to the conclusion it is defective or worn out, mercury picks up the tab for the diagnosing and the dealer calls you to authorize them to start on the work, if not you pay the $110 or so that it is to determine the cause of the problem and then you decide what to do from there. So to start you may want to take it to the dealer and ask them to look over the tranny and see if there is a problem with it that they can report back to Mercury.

Yeah that's exactly what they told me. Guess I'll have to take it in and see how it goes.
