Thinking about purchasing 04+ acura tl
hey guys, i am thinking about purchasing 04+ acura tl as a second car. I currently drive fx35 and in need of 2nd car i thought tl would be a great car. Any recommendations? I used to have 01 acura cls and due to tranmission problem i sold the car within the year. I want to avoid any major problems... thanks guys.

dood....we all want to avoid major problems.
acuras are bullet proof i have owned three (two tls and one integra). nevertheless if the car you are looking at was abused, tracked driven like a rental car, then you may have some issues, regardless you should take it in and have a mechanic check it out first.
generally speaking tls are great cars. the look good they go good, they get good mileage for what they are and they retain value. AND you have us to talk too.

We all can tell you that these are fun, great cars! As you know, since they are Hondas, the TL will be reliable and run forever.

In the last 1200 miles, I've averaged 27MPG...it all depends on how you drive. I've gotten up to 32 hwy before.
That said, I have a 96 TL with 256K miles, a 02 RL with 141K miles and my 05 TL has 70K miles on it. They've all been fantastic cars concerning reliability.

TL gas mileage is wholly dependent on the average speed. Around here with traffic slowing to a crawl most days, I average 15mpg and 13mph. On the freeway 32mpg is very easy to attain.
Look for an '05 and up TL to avoid transmission issues. The rest of the trans issues are easily cured. The number one issue is the 3rd and 4th gear pressure swtiches causing clutch wear. Spend the $90 on these switches and a 3x3 drain and fill with Redline non friction modified racing fluid and it will last forever. There's even a turbo TL with double the factory hp with over 120,000 miles on the original trans following this procedure.
'07-'08 got the updated looks, softer suspension and a few extra features.
