Thinking about departing with 04 TL

My car has been good to me most of the time but recently it has been a money pit. I have had so many problems within the last 1 1/2 year. I already bought another car. It's an 07 E550 and that thing is insane. I bought my last 2 TL's (02 TL TypeS and 04 TL) brand new and have been driving honda products for the past 12 years, and wanted to stay in the family but the RL just didn't do it fo me. The 09 TL AWD had me on the fence. Just thought I'll vent.

money pit? Problems? Can you share what has been wrong with the TL?

The E550 is a very nice car, congrats Is it the new bodystyle or the older one?

I'm curious too. What kind of problems did you have and how many miles? I only wonder because mine has been the most trouble free car I've ever owned.

I bet the problems with the TL didn't cost as much as the E550 did.

And if you want expensive problems, wait until something breaks on that.

I know the MB can be exspensive. But I always liked MB's but could not get pass how exspenive they are and looking at Acura and what you get for your money blows the other luxury brands away. With that said I have a lot of family with MB's from the S, to the CLS, GL, and GLK and my E. So I thought I'll take that plundge. Back to my TL, I am on my 3rd transmission. One under warranty and one not. I had to replace a crankshaft pulley, windshield wiper motor, headlight burned out ($500 by the way) ELS Radio went out, AC went out (almost another $1,000), some type of sensor that detects if there is a problem with the transmission which I repaired before the transmisson went out, and a coolant hose was leaking and leaked all the coolant out and caused my car to run hot. All of the work was done by Acura but man. After a while one can get frustrated and I know I left some things out. I'm always thinking what' next. I like Acura but I may depart for a little while. I do wish Acura would build something to compete with the likes of the MB E550, BMW 550i ect.

I wish you would've read some of my posts on the trans failures. Repeated trans failures are a result of bad 3rd and 4th gear switches. The bad electronics cause a mechanical failure. It's the mechanic's fault for not diagnosing the problem correctly. You could push this issue, especially after it sounds like they finally replaced them.

You can get 2 headlights for $100 online.

Wiper motor is part of a TSB that should've been replaced free, regardless of warranty status.

It sounds like it was a combo of bad luck and your mechanics screwing you but I probably would've jumped ship too if I were in your situation.

The older one but still doesn't look outdated. It's been a while how do I post pics again?

I thought about an AMG either 55 or 63 but when I talked to the local dealer he told me that basically the only thing the E550 and the AMG models share is the body. He said mechanically they are almost totally different cars. For example he said a brake job on all four wheels with rotors and pads would be $1,200 vs he said on the AMG I would be looking at $2,000 for just the front.

Wow congrats on your new ride.....the E550 is a beautiful car.....I got to drive one at work some time ago and I loved it....but my 05 TL has been pretty much problem free, not to mention it love it to death so I don't think I would ever sell it...

Here is a quick video they shot of me at work when I drove the 09 E550....

Thanks. I am really enjoying the car and it is crazy fast. It gives the best of both worlds. You can drive it hard in sport 2 mode or put the suspension on comfort which my wife likes and the ride is nice and smooth. My wife did not like my 02 tl type s nor the 04 tl because she say's there are too sporty but she loves this car. I'm looking forward to see if the next RL will have a V8 in it. By the way that is a nice job to have meaning the youtube video. I would be doing the same thing if I had a job like that.

I have yet to trap my 0-60 time but I know Motor Trend trapped it @ 4.8 seconds. When you floor it from a stand still or about 5-10 mph it pulls extremely hard.
