Thinking about becoming a TL owner
Thinking about becoming a TL owner
Hello all:
Great forum... I just joined earlier this evening and wanted to get everyone's thoughts on a potential Acura purchase.
I've been driving a 2003 Accord EX-L V6 with Navigation since 2005 but want to give it to my daughter, who needs a more reliable set of wheels... what draws me to the third generation TL is that I love its looks (better than those of the current generation) and I think pretty much the same thing that I've been driving for the last seven years (at least at a very basic level).
Today I test drove a certified 2008 TL with 54,500 miles. Asking price is $18,317 at Ed Martin Acura in Indianapolis. The car is immaculate and still smells new. It's Moroccan Red Pearl over beige leather.... very nice combination. No navigation, however, but I'm willing to go the Garmin route if need be... no problem.
I told the salesman (no pressure at all) that I would "sleep on it" and let him know tomorrow what my decision was.
Any thoughts? Sorry that I haven't posted a picture but if I buy it I promise I will!
As of now, I'm very, very tempted... would you pull the trigger?

Welcome ES. The guys can give you a better idea as to if this is a good price or not (it doesn't sound bad to me). But I can tell you that MRP is a rare TL color. I'd grab it!
Isn't the price kind of high?
My personal view
I hate the base model 07-08
Rims, taillights... blah
and Red/Beige color too
plus has no nav
Ok mileage is low but TL is reliable car
Don't they sell Type-S for around $20k
I agree with truonghthe about the nav...although 07-08 non-nav look much better than 04-06
Welcome sir

On the subject another member hating the brakes lights, wheels, and etc, not everyone may like the Type S' wheels etc. Just like not all 4th gen TL owners get SH-AWD trims.

Deal seems pretty good, but not overly special to me. When you are approaching $20k, you might want to hold out for a type s. Might cost a couple grand more, but it would come with the nav among other things. Especially since it sounds like you hold onto your cars for a long time, I don't think you would regret it.
Welcome to the forums! I'm also here in Indy and although I've done the routine maintenance on my TL Type S myself, I have used Ed Martin a few times and really like their level of service. I assume that means you are up on the northside of Indy as well somewhere?
I was in the same boat as you - although my Accord was a '96. My wife drives an '04 though...great cars and when I was looking to upgrade I knew I wanted to stay in the Honda family for sure.
If you are interested in a Type S with a manual transmission, mine is currently for sale and I have room to move on the posted price, but not all the way down to $18k. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in chatting about it or even interested - some don't prefer manuals...

looks are subjective...color choice is subjective...some people like beige and red
the navi...is it imperative you have it? IMO the navi makes the interior/dash more complete. the price isn't bad. i would certainly cross reference all the online sources (nada, KBB, edmund's, and real market value-comparables).
you're the one that is going to be driving the car so....you have to ask yourself what you want in it (color combo, navi etc) and how much you are willing to pay. the TL is a solid car. everyone on hear will say wait for a type-s. go with what you are comfortable with. are the extra horsies and type-s badges, dash lighting etc something you absolutely have to have? it's hardto find clean used cars that haven't been abused. good luck in whatever decision you make.
