Is there a govenor on the 2004 TL?

Just got my new Navi package TL 2 weeks ago.
What a work of art.
I had it going 120 m/h , but I am still on snows, so I will wait for the 18in Ultra high performance Yoko's to see how fast it will really go. I'm hoping for 150 M/h, is that realistict?
Do these cars have govenors, and if so when do they slow you down?

The only published numbers I've ever seen are all "estimated" and are all 155MPH.

Another says 152

Why would you be pissed? A lot of cars have limiters on them, even ones that cost more than your $35K car.

Glad to see you could join the forum CohibaRed!

If you had your TL over 120 mph, I doubt there is a governor. My accord trips out at 190km/h and it is quite an unpleasant feeling having the plug pulled at that speed. I can't imagine that they'd bother with a governor at higher speeds unless there is a need to protect the engine or something.

I am counting the days until my 04TL arrives. I just signed the papers today and deliver is due at the end of April.

It does not have a governor C/D, as usual, was wrong. The car will redline in 5th at around 150 thus engaging the rev limiter.. Maximum speed cannot be achived in 6th.

Should be in the owners manual (if there is a speed limiter). If there is one, when you hit it, the car will jerk and you will feel the fuel cut-off.

Of course! Actually, in most of today's cars, the upper limited is normally determined by the type of tires that comes from the mfg. As a general rule, if the car comes Standard with Y or Z rated tires, the governor will generlaly kick in at 155 (this is the case with the BMW M-series and the Mercedes ///AMGs as well as the Nissan 350Z. Other cars that come std with H-rated tires are often governed at speed that the tire is rated for (in this case 130MHP). This is really only a USA thing but probably also applies to this car. The following emotican was put on this post for my 8 year old son. It in no way is meant to reflect anything in this psot. If you have kids, you know how it is... :yack:

Yes, that is essentially true of all six speed cars. 6th does not provide enough torque to overcome air resistance at very high speed. (I dont want to hear any ferrari or E55 crap thats a different category!)

I posted this on another thread. Here is a C&D article on TL:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?
section_id=19&article_id=7062&page_number=2

C/D-estimated performance (6-sp manual):
Zero to 60 mph 6.0 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 15.7 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 14.7 @ 97 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 140 mph

Projected fuel economy:
EPA city driving: 19 mpg
EPA highway driving: 28-29 mpg

SO, sounds like CD is wrong on this issue based on some of the threads here.

If you had your car over 120 then you got some big ones. I did have mine (accidently) over 100 while passing and if felt smooth so I don't doubt the same characteristics at higher speed. The car does surprise me on how fast it gets up to triple digits - poor excuse when pulled over.

By the way, my governor sits in a minivan. However, she does govern when riding in my car.
