Testing ignition coils?

Is there a way to test the ignition coils on a 3rd Gen TL? Going to change the spark plugs soon and was have some coil problems a while ago so I would like to test all of the coils while I am changing the spark plugs.

Pull the coil off of the plug, but leave it connected. Install a spark plug into the coil and ground the plug out, then start the car. This is pretty dangerous but I've done it many times.. although not on the TL as I haven't suspected any coil fail.
