Strange TL-S 6MT prices

I'm just window shopping for the 6MT, (don't plan to buy til another 6months at least), so I wanted to get a feel for the prices. I'm up in Canada eh but that shouldn't matter too much:

http://dealerinventory.wheels.ca/bla...-acuraonbrant/

Note that the windshield has a price tag of $28992 so I assume they dropped it 3k down. Then I came across this post (same car) on autotrader:

http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Acura/TL/...0526104813773/

Notice how it has a windshield price of $27992 and is being advertised as $23992. This leads me to conclude that it was once posted at $28992 and now it's 5k down. Does this seem reasonable or could those just be price errors? It seems like it went through several price drops. I was surprised when the price was $23992 since others are in the high 20s range so I figured something could be wrong with the car? accidents? but I also see the original $29k price.

In a nut shell, is this a deal or a steal?

Personally, I would say it is a deal at 23,992, especially with the Acura certified and warranty to 160K which should give you 2 more years of coverage. Too bad I didn't see it.....it would have been worth the price of a flight. I just bought an '07 with 70K, same options, 1 year of powertrain warranty left for $24,500. If you are serious about getting one, I would seal the deal now.

Often times they'll list an "internet" price. Those unfortunate enough to see the sticker price and buy it at the sticker price are suckers.

I had a dealer list a 6MT SSM TL i looked at for 18 or 19k sticker, 16k online. Some dealers are willing to negotiate off the internet price, which would be preferable. Other might use it as a bait/switch.

I don't have the cash yet so I can't get it now. Don't really want to finance so I think I can wait. I was just unsure of the sudden price drops. There's another TL-S from the same dealer but it states no accidents so I can only conclude this must have been through some turmoil? There must some reason for why it's still up there!

There may be another reason, but not likely an accident if it is Acura Certified...or if so a minor one.

I actually went to go see that car.

I was in the market for a 6mt type-s. I ended up buying an 07 ASM 6MT Type-S.

6MT are very hard to find in Canada but at the same time there has to be someone looking for it.

Hard to find but only because not a lot of people bought them to begin with

lol here we go

I bought a 05 WDP TL in 07. I just sold it 2 months ago with the idea I would get into something else.

I went around and test drove numerous cars and realized that I couldn't leave the Acura brand.

That is when I decided I wanted a 6MT type S. Originally I was looking for another WDP.

I found a total of 6 potential cars.

1. 07 WDP Type-S 6MT 130,000kms - buyer wouldn't budge on price $24,000 Canadian

2. 08 NBP Type-S 6MT 56,000kms - $24,988, was involved in a front end accident which is reflected in the price

3. 07 NBP Type-S 5AT 100,000kms - Got him down to $20,000 but I really didn't want another 5AT

4. 07 KBP Type-S 5AT 77,000kms - $22,000, didn't want 5AT and body condition wasn't the best

5. The car you listed, I really didn't want to buy from an Acura Dealer as taxes were going to kill me

6. 07 ASM Type-S 6MT 80,000kms - $24,000 <-- the one I purchased

I ended up buying the 07 ASM Type-S. This wasn't the colour I was looking for but when I went to see this car I fell in love. The guy I bought it from worked at Acura and he bought it when it came off lease in 2010. He recently got a new job at BMW so he was forced to sell the car. Because it was purchased from Acura by him he purchased the extended Acura Care warranty until 2014. He also had the navi screen changed once and bluetooth module changed once under warranty. The transmission was rebuilt under warranty as well. It came with the Acura I-pod link already installed, Injen intake, Tein SS, rear camber kit, Front Type-S lip, Dealer tints. Out of all the Type-S I went to see this was the one in the best condition. It took me about 4 weeks to find this car.

I found a few others out of province but it was going to cost too much to bring it back to Ontario.

I am so happy that I didn't sacrifice transmission. This 6MT is so much more fun to drive than my old Supercharged 5AT.

now if you buy that one from Acura you will pay the 13% tax on the full purchase price. I bought private so even though I paid $24,000 I was able to pay tax on the wholesale value which was less.

I would check to see if the transmission on that black type-s has been rebuilt under warranty.

ps. I also didn't buy NBP because it shows every imperfection lol

^Thanks! Very informative!

Are both the 07-08 TL-S' susceptible with tranny issues?

I thought you'd have to pay tax on the higher amount? Undervalued the purchase price?

Retail Sales Tax

You must pay sales tax when you buy a used vehicle privately. The amount of tax is on either the purchase price or the vehicle's wholesale value, whichever is more.

Hey guys I have an 04 5AT with only 120k kms in near perfect condition (just a few scratches) and I was thinking of trading it in for a 07 or 08 6MT. How much should I be looking to pay on top of my car?

I did this exact trade in 2010 with a 06 TL/Navi 5AT with 70k kms and paid about 8 grand plus tax, so expect to pay at least 10k-12k min (assuming you buy your car at an acura dealer)

Hey GTSX-05, I was reading your post and I actually bought the 08 Type S 6MT from the dealer. I got the carfax and yeah, the front end accident was definitively reflected in the price. (No frame damage, only body) I got it at 23,888$ after I've asked the dealer to take the car for an Acura inspection. Turned out everything was ok, except for the front brake rotors and pads... got them replaced for 150$.

I'm in Montreal so drove back from Toronto, was doing 170km/h top speed, i'm in love with it. A further CAA inspection this morning showed everything perfect as well...

Havn't driven it that much but might need some of that GM fluid as it the 3rd clutch appears to have issues of not switching properly, although seems to be only occasionally. I'm definitively satisfied as all options were included (navi, roof, etc), and as 6MT is pretty rare in Montreal, I don't think I could have found another one at a better price. Only thing missing is the windows tint that I'm getting them done tomorrow.

I'm new to the Acura family, definitively an upgrade from my 97 Mazda Protege.

congrats on your purchase.

i test drove that car like 4 times lol.

The best they would offer me was $23,888 when I went in there. I actually got into contact with the original owner and he told me all about the accident and where it was fixed. I would have picked it up but there were for a few issues with the car I wasn't happy with. Had a few scratches on it and the stain on the rear seat. Either way I am happy someone from here bought it lol.
