Strange sound...

Okay, this is not another rattling thread. I have noticed that when I have a CD playing and also am using the Navigation, every once in a while I will hear a loud CRACK! It sounds like a rock hitting the hood/windshield. It is so loud you can almost feel it. However, I know that it is definitely not a rock and it only happens in the situation described above. Anyone else notice/have this situation? I don't know if it is just the CD or what, I will have to do more testing.

A

Can you name those songs? Are you using a burned CD? Where does the sound originate?

Some songs, especially on burned cds will have gaps in the recording that causes no skip but rather a noise similar to a crack. It may be pronounced more on the TL because the rear deck subby could be uneven or has some other problem as many people have complained about it. If you try to use another CD, it might aleviate the problem.

There was a thread on this a few months ago. Most people have isolated it to playing DTS (not DVD-A) discs. The upshot of the previous thread was that it is a problem with the DTS decoding software (?).

Seemingly there were more than a few people who had this "popping noise" experience while playing The Police Greatest Hits DTS disc. I've heard it twice with that disc, but I haven't heard it with any other DTS disc (or DVD-A or CD for that matter).

I agree it's an issue with DTS disks. I can decode a DTS CD to my computer and burn it to DVD-A, and it sounds perfect. I personally think it's insufficient error correction in the player.
