For years I put 50k miles on my cars in two years but now work from home. Looking forward to the fourth generation TL. Might go with black this time.

I always felt cars were meant to be used, not stored. Especially Honda's. They run better and longer with daily use. I'm sure the paint looks great though.

Not at all. I bought mine Nov. 30, 2006, and I currently have 21K mi. That's with the car not being driven for 2 months due to a couple idiots who ran in to me.

Satin Silver Metallic, no navi . I'm in Tequesta in Northeastern Palm Beach County. Not sure when I might sell it in the coming months. Always garaged, serviced every 3k miles, new Michelin Pilot Sports at 10k miles and new battery at 3 years.

I always use up the miles before the time on the warranty....

i just bought my car in april and i have 19k on it, i used to drive 100 miles round trip to work. Luckily I got a new job and my job pays for my public transportation and I drive on the weekends now.......but either way I never hold myself back from driving due to worries of excessive mileage....I have to make sure I get my money's worth being that I normally keep my cars for at least 7 yrs. drive them until the wheels fall off...LOL

I can totally understand the benefit of having a low-mileage vehicle, it is great for resale, but also for longevity. To some folks with longer commutes it could pay to get a beater to preserve TL's value, but to each his own.

With a longer commute you'd want to use the TL. Sure, the mileage would be high, but the wear and tear would be less...plus, driving a long time in a beater sucks...wouldn't you want to enjoy the comfort of the TL?

90% of my driving is above 45mph. I think that's why that cars I've had all ran strong well past 200k (my current one has 51,xxxk).

I have the option to drive in a Ford Taraus 96 and the TL. 06

I'd rather put miles on the TL. The comfort and performance difference just isnt worth it.

Wow, that's low.

When I bought my 01 M3 last August, it had 12,440 miles. It has 13,077 miles today but it's not a daily driver.

My buddy sold his 91 NSX in summer of 2006 and the car had 10,500 miles.

I bought a new Corvette in 2005. Had it for a year and a half and sold it with 1000 miles (for only $6000 less than I paid for it new). The only cars I drive hard are rentals. Like my wife said once while in a rental " Slow down! These tires have got to last us two weeks!"

There is some truth in that... Seals, tires, oils, etc. don't dry up when sitting for extended periods with little use... Things are meant to move mechanically in cars and if they aren't used wierd things happen, when they are used they're lubricated, stretched, compressed, heat cycled, etc.

See above, cars are meant to be used... Verifyable highway miles IMHO are much more desireable than hard working stop and go city miles.

I'll even go so far as to say, the OP's car being 4+ years old and the little use, albeit daily, low miles indicates short hops... Isn't worth looking at when buying a used car. Even if he changed the oil every 3,000 miles, that's less than 6 oil changes in 4+ years and short trips = CONDENSATION... Not to mention salty humidity of S. FL? I bet the shock/strut seals are dry rotting/shafts pitted and opening that motor might show some real damage, not to mention exhaust system... I bet everything looks great, but this isn't something you'd find at a muscle car auction where a 35+ year old car with low miles is favorable.

IMO - look for a used car in the range of 12k/year for the age of the car... In this case 4+ years, 48K... A few thousand lower in miles might garner a few hundy more in sale price, a few thousand more miles shaves a few hundy... Find a same year car with 25K more miles and save 2-3K, plus chances are good it'll continue to be a strong runner.

Everything you stated above is inaccurate. I've owned 25-30 new cars and never experienced the issues you mentioned and always did well at sell/trade-in time. My TL is garaged and driven almost daily around town and occasional Interstate jaunts but thanks for your comments nevertheless.

10.2 miles a day is considered a short trip. 5.5 miles each way. Cars take a while to warm up, get to operating temp. Water is a by product of combustion. The exhaust/engine internals don't get a chance to heat up to burn off all of the moisture. Over TIME this is bad. Now if you plan on getting rid of it soon, then this will be something for the next owner to worry about if they plan on keeping it for a while.

Cars are the least stressed when driven for longer periods on the highway. Stop and go puts excess stress on the brakes/engine/transmission. Obviously since gas mileage is terrible on these cars with short trip driving.

The low mileage is very good for trade in value, but not so great mechanically compared to a car with normal (12-15k) use. With such low mileage it would be wise to follow the severe service schedule in the owners manual.

As for another car, I purchased my TL for the comfort/looks/performance/features. Not so I can "save" miles on it. It's not a classic. As for the OP, maybe he likes to have an abundance of cars and this one was of interest to him and with his other cars doesn't drive it all that much. Nothing wrong with that. As I said before, he will do great when it's time to trade it in.

All I was saying was that cars are "happier" when used more now a days. Browse Ebay and you will be surprised at the condition of some of the TL's (2nd and 3rd gen) with 150-200k on them. The bad part is the nose usually takes a beaten from road rash =(

25-30 new cars with low use over 4 years time... So you're like 100-120 years old and been owning cars outta the womb.

Considering the above was probably an exaggeration, it could be true that you've owned quite a few cars... Unless you've kept every one of them for their useful life, you wouldn't know how they lasted after you turned them over.

Albeit a typo in my screen name, I have a strong passion for snow and I've been through all kinds of snowmobiles... While they aren't cars by any nature, they are vehicles meant to be used and have similar moving parts. Living in FL, you probably wouldn't know this but low mileage/high aged snowmobiles are all over the place, they sound like a great buy reading an ad:

2003 700 Deluxe
300 miles, trail ridden, adult owned
stored inside heated pole barn.

Then you show up and find the cylinders rusted, bearings siezed, track is cracked and delaminating, bushings look dry rotted, etc. etc.

So go on to the next ad and find.

2003 700 Deluxe
4300 miles, trail ridden, adult owned

Drive over and look at it, it's in damn near new shape! Why? Because it's been used, not abused.

Don't worry, you'll sell your car... I have no doubt about that, but if I were looking for a used 04 TL, I'd be looking for one around 50K miles and with luck, some warranty.

Don't anybody get me wrong here on the minimal use issue, you can maintain low miles and still keep things good... Just run the damn thing every week or two, for a good half hour, minimum.

Seriously, I currently dread the way I use my car... Start it in the morning, idle 10-15 seconds and off to get coffee I go, come home 5 mins later and shut it off until the next day in many cases... We've been in the low teens for weeks, this is not the way to "take care" of a car by any means but is my lifestyle. I do make a point to "drive it" every now and then, mines an 06 with 12K.

It STILL amazes me that some one, some where will be able to find something negative in stuff like this. The low mileage is a BENEFIT, not a detriment. If I was seeking a used, well maintained car, I think EVERY buyer in his right mind would be clamoring for a one-owner 4 year old car with only 15K miles. And yes, I AM PROOF that buying such a vehicle is a GOOD thing and there is no worry about "heat up time" or drive durations or ANY of that crap some of you people are touting out here. The 1987 Convertible Corvette in my signature was 3.8 years old when I bought it in late 1990. It had 8K miles on it (Yep, it still smelled new). Turns out is had belonged to a couple who lived in Denver. He bought it for her. She hardly ever drove it so it had sat in the warm, heated garage for nearly 4 years only being driven here and there VERY occasionally. Who knows, maybe she drove it twice a week for a 1.7 mile (each way) trip? Point is, it was PERFECT.

Having stated this actual FACT from my personal experience (rather than heresay others are quoting), I will state that my wife let me know when I arrived home tonight that Acura had called today to congratulate me on my 4th year anniversary of the day I bought my 2004 Acura TL w/NAVI. I have 45, 303 miles on it right now so that is less than 12K/year. I translate this to waving goodbye to your college-bound teenager.... Your on your own now, son.... In that it also represents the expiration of the warranty (in the case of the car, not the son)...

I guess it's officially time to start modding this puppy. I've already got wheels (last Christmas) so maybe I should do springs or a coil-over kit this Christmas....Hmmm. Then again, I did see that someone was trying to find a new home for a Comptech S/C..... So many decisions, so little cash... LOL!

wow 1000 miles and sold it for 6000 less the you paid. That means miles alone cost you 1.00 / mile. That is incredibly high in my opinion. On the other hand, if you drive a car that you paid 30k 200k miles and then sold it for 5k, that equates to 25k$/200kmiles or 12.5 cents/mile.
Drive the heck out of the car and rack as many miles as you need to. They are meant to be enjoyed. Despite our affinity for our cars, they are not collector items that need to be garaged and babied throughout their lifetime. They are a utility and as such should be used.

everyone has their own standard and belief, so this topic really pointless. Some folks have liberal views and some have conservative views on whether the TL is a kind of a car that should be beat up on.

I would love to be able to keep my TL for as long as I can, even 10-15 yrs, while not putting anything in it, and still sell for 5K. Cars on average last 200k mi regardless of age. If I put 200k mi on it in 5 yrs that means I'll have to get a new car sooner, and will have less for a downpayment. If the same 200k mi is put during 10 yrs, that's giving more car use for the same money, decreasing my cents per mile cost. That way, it is ok to go through 2-3 beater cars in 5 yrs and spend $6K on them but save $35-40k on new car payment.

Those that make 500K+ a year can afford to trade in as often as they want, to they can afford to swing the higher cost of each mile.

I've got a '04 Anthracite 6MT Navi with 14,600 miles. It's been garaged and never driven in rain or snow. It's been taken out weekly for exercise. It's got PS-2 Tires..and has had oil analysis done by Terry Dyson since new. It's got a slight curb rash damage on the left rear wheel.....done by myself during a recent loss of brain function. It's repairable for less than $100. There are no scratches, door dings, or any flaws inside or out. The seat leather has been replaced with the new style covers. When I sell....how much should I ask for this primo TL?
PM me if anyone has suggestions on how to sell this car.

Just turned 15k miles TODAY on its 4th birthday. Plan to sell it outright sometime between now and when the 4th generation TL comes out to best offer.

Anthracite was my wife's first choice and if the dealer had had one with Ebony interior, that's what I would have now instead of my SSM/ Ebony. Actually, I like them both.
