Sport shift mode doesn't stay in 2nd, shifts back to 1st

Sport shift mode doesn't stay in 2nd, shifts back to 1st
Does everyone's do this??
If I'm in 2nd gear in sport shift mode, and punch it it shifts back into 1st gear, under 30mph. I just want it to stay in second. If I'm going 22mph, and I'm in 2nd, it will stay in it at normal acceleration but under WOT it shifts back to first!
It only does it when I'm under 30mph.. If I'm going 30 and punch it, then it will stay in 2nd gear. Is this a problem or a terrible design?

Why are you punching it if u wanna stay in 2nd under 30mph??? they engine had no choice but to downshift to meet your demand because the rpm is too way low to give you power at 2nd under 30.
and over 30mph, it gives the engine a decent rpm and power so it doesn't force itself to downshift.....it's a sport shift...still not a manual...therefore the ECU somehow still has control over it...Like everytime i come to a stop it automatically goes back to 1st altho i want it to stay in 2nd to save more gas during take off!!

When you punch it the ecu reads it as you asking for more power. It assumes that you forgot to down shift and does it for you. It will also down shift for you are about 45 mph if you are in 5th and decelerating. It is designed to do this.

20MPH will have the car right in it's vtec powerband when in 1st gear at WOT...
50MPH in 2nd gear WOT will put you right in VTEC also...

Why doesn't it do it when it's in third then? If I'm going 27 mph in 3rd and punch it it doesn't shift.

if you are in sportshift mode the car automatically shifts from first to second for the 04-06 model years, so the downshift from second to first is automatic as well when you WOT. Most people only need to go WOT at low speeds to get into trafic. Usually you dont have to go WOT at higher speeds to meet up with traffic. After the automatic shifting to second it no longer autoshifts unless you are decreasing in speed. This is the way the designed the car to work.
