You can run fast in autobahn in Germany but here your toast.

Carry on.
Few comments i'd like to make based on this post:

1) clearly you weren't lucky, as you got caught
2) No one would ever speed up in the presence of law enforcement
3) let's hope those consequences change your view on street/highway racing
4) cliche - just b/c everyone jumps off a bridge doesn't mean you have to go do it
5) this isn't Germany

There are times when you can get away with going fast, however in my experience these times do not include endangering other's lives... Ya, get on your fence and come up with some million to one scenario, but there's a larger risk slipping in the shower and breaking your neck. I'll wind up the speedometer, because I can and I'd rather do it with 4 lanes wide open and nearly 2 miles of visibility.

FWIW - I don't race anybody, yet I speed most of the time I drive... Why? Because most of the time I'm just trying to stay away from everyone else, I hate the way people clump into groups on the road... Stretch out a little! Oh, and the left lane isn't the sight-seeing lane! Seriously, driving around Chicago the RIGHT LANE has become the fast lane... WTF?

If it's later at night and there is no traffic on an open highway I could cut you some slack, but when people are dodging and weaving in and out of traffic, that's reckless and I don't appreciate that.

Damn and I am upset I got a ticket last week for 63 in a 45 (didn;t realize I was over 55 until I saw blue lights) which by all rights shoudl be a 55 zone, but the counties down here like to under post to generate revenue, after all a 3 lane each way medianed road at 45 when I have been on worse roads posted at 55! Woudl be nice for states to post roads at reasonable limits then nail the true speeders. I usually try to keep it to 10-15 over limit depending on the conditions, but wiht these darn TL's it is so easy to go 75-80 and not even know it. Most of GA is nice they don't start to bother you until you are 10+ over the limit and I beleive the State Troopers here can't even ticket you for less than 10+.

I live in Montreal and got caught reall bad at a 180km/h with a LAZER. Was coming back from a party in Trois-Riviere. (80km above the limit) 180 = 113miles/h. I got this ticket the first week I had the car... Here in Quebec we can acumulate 15 points before they remove your licence for 3 months...

This ticket add 7 points to my records but trust me I took a good lawer lol and I only have to pay the price of the ticket to the lawyer. 625$CDN. Pretty hard for a first fine in my TL.

Ps. Didnt even realized I was at 180...this car is so smouth...it was 3h30 in the morning!

Driving isn't a good thing when your not in a track!!!!!!period

Or if you are driving on Hwy 50 across NV and haven't seen a car for 2 hours. Almost required that you open it up.

One thing that you may
have to worry about the
judge requiring you to is
self insure w/ a SR-22.

In Hawaii the way it works
is you have to carry $25K
liability coverage and then
your carrier confirms w/ DMV
that you have the coverage.

For three years.

Progressive treats it as another
rider on the policy and charges
$20 for the filing. My understanding
is my rates would hardly be
affected as I was already
paying over 2 grand a year.

They lasered me awhile back,
WOT on a deserted freeway
at 2:30AM, , substantially
doubling the double nick.

I'll be using my cf and Ti
encrusted FMF 24" Pro Cruiser
and GoPed ESR750EX electric
scooter as my cars till the end
of September.

Consider yourself lucky for a couple of reasons:

1) Mainly, this whole story ended without any injuries or fatalities. I think what ChicagoBurbs said really puts everything in perspective. You might be thinking over your legal options, but you probably don't need to learn how to walk again. I know someone from college who needed to learn how to speak again when his car was T-boned by a drunk.

2) It sounds like, although you were going at least 45 mph over the limit (if it were 65) and 55 over if it were 55, you neither went to jail nor got your car impounded. (Some places, 35mph over is an automatic impound.) Also, a quick reminder that in some cities, when people get their cars back from the impound lot, there's damage/content theft etc.

3) While you might be mad that if this whole experience costs you $$, it's something avoidable for the future. If your car suffered damage because a tree fell on it (or a co-worker vandalized it), even after the repair you might wonder if it would happen again, or be bothered that you couldn't prevent it.

4) While you probably don't consider your ticket anything to be proud of, the next time someone wants to race you, just wave the ticket in front of them. Tell them you got yours and you don't need to race anymore. Think of it as a diploma which permits you to drive normally again. Maybe the reason they're still racing is because they didn't get the big ticket yet. (And if they do have a ticket like that, and they're still racing, they're crazy, because they didn't learn.)

5) Since you were drag racing, it doesn't sound like you had kids in your car when you got your ticket. If you felt lousy getting a ticket, imagine how you'll feel one day when you're a parent and your kids are in the back seat and you get a ticket. (Though if/when it does happen, handling it gracefully is a good chance to teach kids sportsmanship, as in how to handle following a rule you don't like, like an umpire's call you disagree with.)

6) The next business day after your incident, that same highway was probably clogged with rush hour traffic. Sitting in stop-and-go congestion, the other drivers could only wish that the road were so empty they could actually approach the speed limit, let alone exceed it. You actually saw it that way.

7) You still got an Acura. The other racer only had an Audi, no matter what the speed.

8) In a couple of years when gas is $5 a gallon, the econo-boxes we'll all be driving won't be able to speed, let alone race.

Hope all that wasn't too preachy. After enough time passes, this will just be a bad memory (or an interesting story). A lot of people don't have that luxury.

Sorry about your daughter ChicagoBurbs. Hope she's recovering and doing well.

For the rest.

1. I never drink and drive.
2. It was open stretch with no traffic. I'm not stupid, thus never race in traffic.

Good advice

Already payed to district attorney $1000 with good reputation. He said he'll get me out with just court fee and traffic school and of course no license suspension.

Damn, I'd rather waste money on strip club or some shit

Disclaimer for law enforcement types:
The original post was delusional due to a nightmare dream after watching 'TRANSFORMERS' which doesn't necessarily admits any racing guilt taken place in real life. Never happened nor going to occur with original poster behind the steering wheel.

Have a nice day!

wowsers! i hardly take I-90, but isn't there a lot of state troopers who patrol there?

well, fastest i've ever gone was on I-88 doing 125-130mph keeping pace with a Jaguar XK-8 in a G35, he must've going 135mph though. that was pretty dumb, but i couldn't really feel the speed in the G it was smooth, unlike when I did 115mph in the TSX, i felt like the car wasn't going to muster anymore speed.

To sound like a true nyc guy... If you drive a TL you can out run whatever a highway patrol guy's got under the hood, if you are street racing... why pull over... Might as well floor it and jump off the highway after the next curve you will disappear...

Now to sound even more like an NYC guy... highway patrol in NYC before the Henry Hudson Bridge have v8 Dodge Chargers - so you best believe I put the cruise control on 35mph round them sexy curves...

Not really. I rarely run into cops on the tollways. That section of I-90 only has a couple entrances and exits too so there isnt many places to hide.

Thanks to all who have wished my daughter a speedy recovery, I truly appreciate it.

A quick update...she's going to be released from the hospital later this week. She's healing up nicely, no permanent damage from any of her injuries. Of course she's sore as hell, but otherwise doing very well. We consider ourselves extremely lucky for that!
