A-Spec Discontinued For '05!?

Stopped by a dealer today (not the one I bought my car from) to get some prices on installation of an A-Spec kit. A salesman told me that the A-Spec kit has been discontinued! You can still get the body kit and obviously the new 18 inch wheels (no longer called A-Spec wheels), but the guy told me that the suspension and the full A-Spec package is no longer an option. I asked him why and he said he guessed that there wasn't enough demand....Said something about the demographic (older I guess) for this option on the TL didn't lend itself well to the product. He mentioned that it's more of an RSX-type/younger crowd modification. This particular dealer did sell lots of Comptech stuff though...

I went over to the parts dept. to get some prices on the wheels and body kit. They wanted $3300 for the wheels and tires and $1900 for the installed kit!!! I laughed out loud, then looked the parts guy in the eye and said "SEE YA!!"

I talked to my local dealer here on Friday and A-Spec is very much being sold. Also they have silver/chrome A-Spec wheels too.

According to Latest Press Release...

2005 Acura TL Chassis

http://www.hondanews.com/CatID3011?m...48344&mime=asc

"AVAILABLE SPORT SUSPENSION

An available sport suspension kit can be purchased, which includes all four shock absorbers and springs, larger wheels and tires plus aero components. Known as the "A-SPEC" kit, it provides firmer damping and spring rates for sportier handling. A lower ride height further distinguishes the sport suspension-equipped TL cosmetically.

The A-SPEC kit includes:

Pre-assembled performance springs and shocks that lower the vehicle approximately 1.2 in. (30 mm)
18-inch wheels with 235/40ZR18 Yokohama AVS ES100 tires
Aero kit
Rear spoiler
Special steering wheel with distinctive shape and stitching
Performance brake pads (for automatic transmission vehicles only)
A-SPEC badging "

you know this is kind of the same conversation I had with my dealer except it was about discontinuing the 6spd model because the sales were low. I don't know if its true though.

WTF?? Why would they tell me (a potential buyer) that it wasn't avilable? For those in the South Jersey area, this was Marty Sussman Acura on Rt 38. If they're wrong, they're idiots! Regardless, don't get parts or service from them...they're prices are OUTRAGEOUS!!

they are kidding right? the 6MT is one of the best options there is for this car. why on earth would they discontinue it? there are almost as many 6MT owners on this board as there are 5AT. i think the dealer you were talking to is bs'ing cause cause the MT cars fly off the dealer lots.

So how longer will it be until the '05 A SPEC is released. I'm looking to get the kit w/ the silver rims instead of the '04 gun smoked rims. My dealer has quoted me $4800+TX for the entire job. Does anyone think that I can do better with the price?

The 04 A-spec kit was available about 6-8 weeks after the 04's were out. November-ish.

As far as we can tell, it's probably the same kit as for '04. The car didn't change. Why would the A-Spec kit?

...OH MAN! I heard Acura is discontinuing the TL altogether. C'mon guys...I seriously doubt they would discontinue the a-specs. dealers like to feed junk to their customers. take it with a grain of salt and use it to season your salmon.

the suspension lowers it 1.2 inches?? thats almost twice as much as the 04 aspec suspension, i guess the only thing they changed is the suspension

I don't get it.

The old term for selling is "Sell what you have today." Which means if they don't have a-specs and they think you'll buy that day then they will try to sell you a regular one.
